Hi all.
I recently purchased 5 compromotive wheels that came off of a D4. My idea was to fit some mudterrain tyres to them and use them for when I do trips, but then I remembered I have the tyre monitoring system. Problem is I quite like the standard 20 inch wheels also. My ND is used extensively for overlanding. So the questions are: - Can I buy a second set of TPS for the compromotives that may only get fitted a few times a year? - Apart from the obvious work in changing the wheels is there any negatives to doing this? Thank you. You should have far more "sidewall" on the 18" than your 20's, plus a bit more choice in terms of Tyres..although the 20 does have far more options than the 19" wheels.
Updated 1/6: a discussion on one of the FB owners group in regard to using their own Compomotives from their old D4 has kicked off, one area to consider is the offset on the wheels vs tyre size due to rubbing. The current thoughts are whether the PD1881 wheels with ET44 offset could be limited to 255 In terms of size. Bruce
There are two offsets available on the PD1881, ET33 and ET44, so may be worth checking which ones you have. I know compomotive have stated there 18' fit, Barry Dixon from their UK sales group buzzed me just over a year about a fit to our P400, but we still required to go down the rear caliper change on ours.. so went Tuff Ant as it had ADR certification (Aussie govt regs). Barry was contactable on sales@comp.co.uk and i have pinged the admin on the FB Aussie owners group to get you access .. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

thank you very much zilch.
I looked last night and I have the ET44 offset, so according to the tools I have used on line to compare against the standard wheels I should be fine. Will let you and everyone know here. Tyres are arriving shortly and then I just have to get TPMS's for each wheel. Bruce I have no idea but my car now has two different styles of valve stem and both are working fine at showing the pressure on the dash. It might be worth asking your local tyre supply company as they may have a compatibly table for what works with which makes of car. If you mean in regard to not fitting the X Dynamic D300?? 18' does not easily fit either the P400 and D300 due to the size of the rear brakes calipers built to take 19'/20" rims.. I had to have the rear calipers changed to get 18" Tuff Ant's to fit our P400, and Compomotive informed me the same for their PD1881's.. I am not sure what offset is required to get them to fit easily once the rear calipers were swapped and they were shod with tyres.. as the Compomotive PD1881 comes in both ET33 and ET44.... so possibly a call required to confirm with them.. Some P400/D300 owners are "shaving" the rear calipers to fit 18" wheels as an alternative to swapping the Calipers.. not sure how easily that is done.. As Bruce has the D240, he had 18" wheel option from day one as does the D200 & D250, and the P300.. i think the only limit to that is ones built with the larger brake rotors and calipers based upon some spec'd and delivered with 22" wheels, but once again not consistent, all dependent on the what LR Nitra put on yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Exactly. Thank you for the explanation.
I spoke to Compromotive and they are in the process of redesigning their wheels to fit. I am considering shaving/grinding down the rear callipers on my d300 now to fit the wheels. There seems to be no negative effects from what I can find. I just find it hard to take a grinding disc to a brand new vehicle "Overlanding With Bruce" - Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@OverlandingwithBruce 11MY Defender 130 23MY Defender 110 D300 HSE X-Dynamic https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzrHKcjA-LJ470_H4QwPgVA |
