Wipac NAS LEDs - A 'heads up'
Hi all,

After getting fed up with the constant condensation in my rear lights, I decided to replace them with LED NAS type lights.

I noticed that Wipac have recently introduced a range of LED NAS lights, and they are very competitively priced (approx. £20 each), so I ordered a complete set.

To get over the 'fast blink' problem with LED indicators, Wipac supply a resistor, which has to be spliced in to the wiring harness, and mounted on a fire-resistant surface.

Not wanting to splice into the loom (car is under warranty, after all), and figuring that all NAS LED lights must be relatively similar, I spoke to the very helpful Tim, from Mobilecentre, and ordered one of their flasher relays (as well as some male 'econoseal' connectors - The wipac lights come unterminated), which also get over the problem.

However, after fitting the lights, and relay, although everything worked as planned, every time I tried to lock the car with the fob, the alarm would trip!!

After several tries, and swapping the original indicators back in, I traced the problem to an incompatibility between the relay and the Wipac lights.

A phone call to Tim ensued, and after deciding that I definitely didn't want to splice into the harness, and that the indicators he supplied were the same as the LR OEM ones, I decided to replace the Wipac indicators with a set of his.

Being relatively near Tim (and even though he had not originally supplied the Wipac lights, just the relay!), he offered to come over to my house the same day, try out his lights to make sure they worked, and he even offered to buy my Wipac units, for research purposes!! Service that was 'way above the call of duty', a rarity these days.

Luckily, the Mobilecentre OEM lights worked perfectly with their relay, and Tim was soon on his way.

So, just a warning that if you do go for the Wipac LEDs, you will need to use their own 'splice-in' resistor. Or, go for the OEM type LEDs, with a Mobilecentre Relay.

And a big thumbs up for Tim (and Mobilcentre)'s service! Thumbs Up

Excuses for hijacking the thread. Are there any led bulbs that actually fit ok in standard defender lenses/holders?

Plenty but be careful as they don't place the light where you expect it you could also run into issues as they are not e marked however used them for three years with no issues on the D3

Avoid one that don't throw light in all directions as they use the light reflector etc choose care fully

SZ,
Now you've got a Mobilecentre LED relay fitted, does your green towning indicator repeater thingy on the dashboard still work properly?

No as soon as you put the 4 pin relay in the towing indicator no longer works, they were looking at 2 upgrades for the future 1 being the towing indicator and also making the flash rate faster If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

i don't think its got anything to do with the relay - try this -

leave left or right indicator on when you switch of engine - get out shut doors - now try to lock with fob..........
