Odyssey Battery Draw
Hi All,

I have a bit of a weird issue that I'm not sure if its a battery issue, or just a draw issue. I have two PC1500 Odyssey batteries with a TMAX split charge system

I have recently added a ARB dual compressor to the 110, linked to my second battery. As far as I can see the arb uses ~50a - however when its running, it seems like its drawing all the battery power as it causes my TMAX split charge system to unlink as well as some other "odd" behaviour with some of the other electrical items connected to the second battery, for example, my reverse camera will power off.

I would have thought the odyssey would cope with a 50/60A draw without too much of an issue. any thoughts as to what the issue might be?

Thanks in advance

Joel

Are you running the compressor with engine on? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes, with the engine on or off it seems to make no difference.

I can understand it with the engine off, it's to be expected the voltage will fall to the cutoff level while the compressor is running I think. However, if it still does it with the engine running that's a surprise, I would have thought the alternator could keep the voltage up. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I'd be looking for duff connections in that case. 50A is a not insignificant load, and a bad connection will cause a fairly big drop in voltage. Check with a multi meter at various points, including the battery terminals, and see if you can see anything significant

Ok,

So i have done a bit more digging now. My alternator at idle is kicking out about 13.3v. Now if I start it after it sitting overnight I get about 14.4v for a short period.

Does the TD5 alternator have some kind of smart charging or sensing capability?

When I run the compressor with the engine on and if I give it a few revs the voltage still sits around 13.6v and will briefly return to about 14.4v once the compressor stops.

I’m not sure if it’s behaving as it should or if my alternator is a bit dicky.
