Update:
1/2" 13mm multispline socket fits the brake caliper bolts
11mm spannner for the caliper to metal brake pipe

Flexi to metal brake pipe 14.5mm ?

Bu the good news is, the 13mm and 11mm bolts/brake pipe nut came undone OK. Smile 1999 Defender TD5 110

Well this was just a dry run to make sure the bolts will come undone. Parts not here yet. May as well wait until they arrive save dripping brake fluid.

Good luck with the brake pipe.

I am doing it on the restoration project. Try to keep it out of the hydraulic system though. Just on the threads is fine.

Yes you can, also some red rubber grease can be used for the brake unions as it has been designed for braking systems. Thumbs Up

There is also an argument to be made for extracting the caliper pistons halfway and giving them a coating of RRG before fitting pads. Might help protect the pistons and piston dust covers a bit or for a while.

At least that is what I will be doing when my new calipers arrive. Plus, I have just ordered some caliper paint Rolling Eyes They are new so it is the perfect time to paint them, protect them and then the next step will be a flash set of alloys to show them off Rolling with laughter Rolling Eyes

Forgot to ask. How did your Bala trip go? Beautiful weekend up here. Loads and loads of Defenders and classic cars out on the A5, plus a couple of classic busses as well and I followed a Jag E-type home from the shops Bow down

Which calipers did you go for. I fitted Britpart to the front on mine and they seem OK. I got Ferodo pads to go with them. As I was happy with them I also got Britpart for the rear as I have just had to change my rear axle case so thought it was a good time to do it as they were very tired looking.

I got a tin of brush on caliper paint for the front, but it easily scraped off even before fitting. I wiped the caliper down with brake cleaner first but did not a raid them - it was a pita trying to brush paint them. The rears I have painted with Lidls own high temp paint- easier as its a spray but you should bake it on at 160c for half an hour (which I didn't do). I did scotchbright them first I an not really expecting it to last, but we will see.

I have some silver spray paint and might give then a coating before they go on. 1999 Defender TD5 110
