Aaaaagh !
This is a nightmare ! I thought it was either the anti stall or the cutch to be fair I spoke to the dealer and they said bring it in again, the fuel pressure reg has been changed and this did appear to have rectified it ? So either this one has gone or the clutch is dodgy? DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

Same problem here - generally a slight degree of clattery diesel rattle between changes (up through the gears), and if the clutch left depressed, much worse rattling, the engine management light would come on and vehicle would go onto limp home (very slowly) mode. Based on fault code the fuel rail and pressure valve were changed, but the fault persisted.
I found the issue arose when exceeding 2000 revs when cold prior to a change up (to any gear), and the engine warning light/limp home could be avoided by quickly engaging the clutch - this nearly always happened only once per journey. Have now had the improved clutch kit and new pressure valve and at the moment, all is well, though I can't tell which of the two sorted out the problem - I can't think how it could have been the clutch...but what with anti-stall, engine rev ramp/clutch switch, who knows? 1953 80 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |

The last fuel sensor and rail I had fitted stopped it shutting down to get you home mode however did not stop the problem. Also 90% of time it did it the outside temp was close or below freezing. Boy |

I thought it might have been tha outside temperature, though it was still doing it the week before last, when it was much milder. Hope your new one's OK...when you picking it up? I saw your post about the number plate... 1953 80

Still waiting for those hard working people from DVLA to send my documents back. As soon as I have those I guess within two or three days. I rang them yesterday and the person I spoke to said I should have recieved them by now and to ring back in two days

I've had a similar problem - the answer according to the dealer was to replace both the Fuel metering valve and the fuel pressure relief valve at the same time. I had the pressure relief valve changed on its own to start with but the problem re-occurred - touch wood it's been OK since

cobs,
i have had one of the pressure regs or valve changed but not both as you describe. hopefully this will alieviate the problem ! the noise i am experiencing is not normal diesel clatter on gear change it is almost identical to the sound a generator would make as it is cut before it stops ! at the moment it stops it almost sounds like a massive backfire should be occuring ! the surge from the run on is almost like i am being towed and have no control over the power delivery. on top of that my rear diff sounds like its being slapped with a hammer every time i change up and my fuel economy has dropped thro the floor !!!!!!!!!!!! Deep Joy ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |
