Both will be taxed off the road at some point, so just buy what suits you 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Why do you say that you can only order a D250.... I have a D200HT (Commercial) on order and despite various conversations my Dealer is accepting the order.
SJT D5. Previously 90HT, D4, D4, D4, D2, D1 (3 door V8!) |

Yes l would prefer a petrol also because it would be more suitable for the repeated short journeys that l do in my business.
But it has to be a Commercial Vehicle for tax purposes. Guess l am stuck with diesel, unless a petrol option becomes available in the Commercial version (unlikely) Thing is, the plan is to keep the Defender for maybe a decade at least, as for me it's a bit of a dream car purchase and unlikely to be repeated every three years as many do. |

I wouldn't write off diesel as an alternative to petrol; while they got some bad rep a while back modern diesels are much cleaner, and if we are worrying about taxes etc in the future, it's worth bearing in mind that the P300 for example is the thirstiest (after the v8 ) defender that Land Rover do, and hence much worse on CO2 etc, with all the tax implications etc that that has.
Even my P400e (which has the same petrol engine on top of the electric motor) barely gets 23mpg combined when the battery is flat. A modern diesel I wouldn't regard as any more of a risk than a modern petrol really. Just my two cents Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

As soon as the likes of Khan of London start to run out of money he will turn his attention to Euro 4 petrol vehicles…..
Modern diesels in my opinion are still the best, and as said above, it’s not until you run a large petrol vehicle that you realise how poor the MPG is. As long as they get a good run now and again then the DPF is not an issue. Finally it depends on how long you are expecting to keep it. If it’s only for the period of the PCP or the warrantee, save the money on less fill ups.. |

I would rather diesel than petrol for sure
But at the price of fuel both aren't the best lol and battery isn't the answer not is a train Mike |

There is the issue of fuel consumption. Under 20mpg would be no use to me, hopefully l will get at least 25mpg from the D250 in my Commercial.
Local short journeys between customers, with 1/2-1 hour at each stop, so the engine barely gets warm particularly in winter. l struggle to get over 30mpg out of anything. My Defender 110 TD5 manages 26mpg |

You should be fine. I'm currently only really doing trips of around 6 miles (gym, home, farm, repeat) and getting mostly between 30-33 from my D200 https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Only done 400 miles, but average over 30. and on 80 mile run, mixed A,B and motorway, did over 35 in our D250 - all from trip computer readings

Sounds great, that will work for me.
Looking forward to getting it. Base spec D250 Commercial in white with the steel wheels. Tow bar Centre console Fog lights Solar reflective windshield So pretty much the lead in specification. Don't forget l currently drive a 2005 Defender so electric windows/central locking is the sum total of the tech. Can't decide whether or not to go for the black roof though at £900 from Land Rover it would be cheaper to get it wrapped. What do you think? Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Yeah, just get it wrapped. That's a good spec. Like you I came from a classic Defender so there's already plenty of toys on it in comparison. You won't be disappointed. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Agreed, that’s what I did. Base spec with a few options like towbar, centre console and digital dash. I came from a 200Tdi 90 so it’s still utter luxury.

Keep the white roof and wrap the sides white
It’s a shame LR have done away with the base model, originally that was what was after but it was deleted for 21MY and S was as low as I could get. My 23MY is an SE which is a down grade in a way as it has the analog dials but need the space more. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |
