That bracket will come away from the block. You’ll need to undo the Torx headed bolt that supports the alternator (there is a captive nut on the other end) then undo the three bolts that secure the bracket to the engine block. See pic below.

Thank you for you response, thats really helpful.
Do you know if it's possible to remove this mount without having to remove the alternator with it ? Im thinking I might be able to support it in place whilst I attend to the bracket!! thanks again |

The alternator is supported at the top as well, so without the belt tension to worry about you should be able to leave it in situ. Just make sure you’ve disconnected the battery as you don’t want any metal contact with the live terminal on the top while you’re messing about down there.

This happened to me as well.
I carefully cut the middle of the broken pin out with a pointed carbide burr in a Dremel. Pulled the remnants out with a pick. Took only a few minutes. Be super careful to control the cutter…..but I was able to do it easily without removing the bracket and leaving everything in the vehicle . The pin is not very deep as you can tell from your new one. Patrick Last edited by Justtellme on 20th Mar 2022 11:40am. Edited 1 time in total |

Not seen that before, definitely worth dabbing a bit of anti-seize on that peg before fitting the tensioner.
Good luck sorting it out. |

Thank you to everyone who responded with helpful advice I can now close this thread and just add my thoughts in case this happens to anyone else and they find this thread useful.
I bought a replacement part from a breakers yard but didn't need it as once I had removed the bracket, which was a bit of a fiddle but totally doable without having to remove the alternator, I could drill out the broken tab using a small bit then getting bigger. It then just popped out as the last bit shredded. Refitting was a bit easier as I cleaned and sanded all the joining surfaces adding some copper slip, as suggested also to the new tab and mounting surface of the tensioner in case this has to come of at a later date. Belt and fan back on and hey presto back in the game, ready for the next bolt to break! The only special tools required where a thin walled 14mm 12point spark plug socket for the bolt that holds the tensioner on, a Torxbit not sure what size it was and a spanner set for removing viscous fan otherwise all standard stuff. Thanks again and have a nice weekend. Click image to enlarge |
