If you've fitted LED headlights or even just changed a bulb, you'll know that you just unscrew them from the front. Removing the headlight also provides access to other components we'd like to keep safe.
If your Defender has an alarm fitted, there is a switch in the engine bay to detect the bonnet opening. This circuit can be easily extended with additional switches. The connector on the bonnet switch is a 2 pole Econseal, available from Ebay for a few quid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271674203749 You need about 5 meters of 0.5mm2 cable in colours of your choice. https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/11-amp-sing...cable.html I used a couple of IP67 microswitches, one for each side. Again available from eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264404476312 I used ones with a long lever. The lever can be bent to fit. The alarm circuit is triggered when the connection is closed, so wire up the contacts in parallel. Use the Econseal connectors to make a breakout loom so you're not messing with the factory wiring and it's easily reversed if required. The Econoseal connectors can be crimped with some long nose pliers, rather than buying an expensive crimping tool. To mount the microswitches, I just made up some little brackets with some right angled aluminium I have in my workshop. Now if some tow rag removes the trim around the front lights it will trigger the alarm. |

Also worth replacing the existing screws with security headed screws. Will hopefully stop the casual thief and possibly slow down a more determined one.
Another layer of protection. |

If you want to go The Full Monty on security fittings try these.
https://uproar4x4.com/collections/stainles...y-bolt-kit I'll be fitting them when I fit new LED headlights. The regular security screws are not so secure, I purchased a complete set of security bits off Amazon for £12. |
