My power steering not working. I assume pump is gone. Anyone know if replacing pump is straight forward?

I'd be looking for a bit more than 'I assume pump is gone' before diving in and replacing the pump!

What leads you to the conclusion the pump has failed?

IME (with 200Tdi's at least) the pump may leak or bearings start to fail (get noisy and play) long before they stop functioning completely. Obviously the 300 only has one ancillary belt for everything so you would know if that had gone, but what is the fluid level like? Any unusual noises, any foaming of the fluid? Are you getting any steering assistance, or maybe only intermittently or in certain positions? Any symptoms prior to complete failure.

Assume the pump is at fault if you want, but that approach often leads to the unnecessary replacement of perfectly good parts, and don't forget, everytime you fit something you will be losing/replacing the fluid too and that adds to the cost/waste.

Thanks for the video. Checked power steering fluid, levels fine. Abit of damp though around the bottom end of the pipe. Have no power steering at all, not even intermittently or no noises, rattles or groans. Took it that power steering pump just isn’t working 💁🏼

Was it working and then stopped working?
