How to price to sell
I see a lot of Defenders advertised and some have crazy prices against them. So what is a sensible way to set a price?

My defender is an early Puma. May 2007 90 XS. I bought it new. 59k miles. The dealer fitted a snorkel and rubber mats front and rear. I added wing top checker plates to help me with my howling moon roof tent and a dual battery syatem for an Engel fridge.Full service history, never off roaded unless you count the Goodwood camp site. Side steps and exposed bolts show a little rust. Had a new steering box a few years ago. Tyres are original - I know they are 15yrs old but when serviced I ask if they need replacing and am advised they are fine.

So what is a sensible price? I have the original service books, warranty books and pouch. Invoice shows list of about £28k but LR and the dealer discounted for me to £25500.

I had some lovely mahogany fronted drawers made that sit on 2 levels across the back when the seats are removed too but only ever used for Goodwood.

Everything that was supplied new is still there.

This machine has never let me down but I now hardly use it as I live in London Ulez. It spent the first 14 years in an underground carpark and only moved outside last year.

Suggestions on price and where best to sell please.

We buy any car is a good place to start Thumbs Up

Not sure with tyres that old that passing an MOT would happen but new tyres fitted to aid the sale aren’t expensive.

Maybe upload pictures here as well , to see if any forum member is seeking a nice unmolested defender?

let’s know how you get on. 2015 HT XS 90
2008 SVX 90
2000 XS TD5 90

How much did you pay for it new?

If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for it new? I personally would be happy with the 25,000 and be happy after 15 years of servivce to you if i found someone to take care of the truck rather than some plonker who would give me a few quid more! .....but im a defender enthusiast not a car dealer!

I read that as he paid £25500, discounted from £28000, I may be wrong.

gcc130 you are correct. I’m pretty sure the cost was £25500 and discounted from £28000. I’ve got the original invoice but haven’t checked.

The age of a tyre is not checked at MoT (except for tyres on the steer axle of an HGV or PCV) and provided they are in good condition and not cracking they will pass.

They are unlikely to be suffering from UV-induced scission if they've spen 14 years underground.

We Buy Any Car have suggested £20500. Does anyone have experience of selling to them? Can I expect them to knock that price down further because a 15 year old vehicle has the odd mark ? Thanks

IMHO you'd get a better price privately. However you'd have the faff of tyre kickers.

If you want to get rid of the truck asap, "we buy any car" will be your favorite solution.

They proposed 500 for an old Twingo by mail - and zero after I took it over there.

But it's quick and easy, just go there and nothing more to worry about ...

If you want to use an immediate purchase option, have a shop around.

Autotrader offer a purchase service
CarWow ditto
There are others bit it's late and I forget their names.

Thanks. Perhaps I’ll do a little more research before making a decision

You’d be mad to give it to WBAC given the market for Defenders. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

That beings me back to my original post. How do I work out a fair price? I looked on facebook and ebay earlier and prices seem very high. But do they sell? Mine is relatively low mileage for a close to 15 year old vehicle. It is one owner and almost totally stock. It needs a little tidying up but anything similar seems to have an asking price of £30k. Does that make mine £25k? My suspicion is that they don’t sell for the prices being advertised but would love to be proved wrong

You can also check the 'sold' prices on ebay.

As an example, this one is similar mileage, but 2012, given it is only a county, not an XS, it went for £23850.
