Evening all.
Post a very very long clutch replacement and brake line replacement, both systems are now bled and I was hoping to fire her up today. No luck, just a whirring sound on attempted turnover. Is this the battery (it was fully recharged and is generally new), or the starter not turning over (what can I do?) or something else? Video to help…..thanks as always. Note that due to location of the Def and workshop access, and weather, and hols etc etc, this has been ongoing for three months. The Def has stayed stationary for most of that time bar being wheeled in and out of the workshop. No movement at all in the past six weeks, lots of cold weather. “Was stater removed for works?”. Not knowingly.
No. Never touched. I’ll get a big power kit on it and see what happens. I did have the battery tested, albeit a month ago, and they said it was fine. I got the sense there was enough juice, and my suspicion was the starter. Is it easily removed? Easily repaired? Or if failing, normally a new purchase? Assume you are pressing the clutch, and in neutral whist trying to start, incase the clutch isn’t releasing.

I assume so. But honestly I cannot say and you’ve got me head scratching. I have been driving an auto for three months. Maybe I forgot. I know for CERTAIN that it wasn’t IN gear. But no active clutch pressed. And it is brand new. Monsieur Le Grenadier

As extra background, when testing the clutch first time (it’s during the test that the break pipe sprung a leak), even with a seemingly fully charged battery, we had to bump start it. Does this indicate seized or dead starter? If it’s not started either time? It’s 90k in….. Monsieur Le Grenadier

It's evidently cranking but not fast enough to start. Clutch in/out is a red herring since the vehicle isn't lurching.
First step jump leads to another vehicle and try again. If that makes no difference check battery and starter connections and try again. If that still doesn't help, report back here for further suggestions! |

Thanks all. Popping down this am to check earths and terminals. I know the positive clamp on the mega fuse was never fully tight, and the nut on the clamp slightly burred, so by complete coincidence wanted to replace it. I’ve looked high and low to find the product code for just the clamp, as opposed to the mage fuse, or indeed the full starter cable, and can’t find one. Does anyone have any ideas what it is? Or any remedy to getting it replaced? Can any clamp be used and does the mega fuse need to remain in place (I’ve seen a number of people mention taking it out). Any help welcome. You can use any clamp, but yes you do want the fuse in place otherwise any cable damage between the battery post and starter and the LR is toast and not the good type.
Take a look on eBay and you may find the PN via there. If you want a fuse holder I would look at Blueseas offerings and you’d want a fuse of the same rating as can use the same one unless you want a spare. Fuse shindig be as close as possible, usually within 18”. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
