Recently did an oil service using Mobil Super 3000 5W-30 and a genuine JLR oil filter. The Defender continues to run well and cold starts the best it ever has!
Have done a couple of longish journeys with it now since 'the dreaded incident'; one around 150 miles and another just under 300 miles. Engine didn't miss a beat which can only be good news This weekend I fitted a new set of four genuine door seals in an attempt to cure water ingress. I also got a roll of sealing tape and replaced all of the butyl seals in the process... So far so good and the seals have also cured some draughts and improved the door closing process which is a welcome bonus > 110 XS Double Cab |

Good news your still putting the miles on with the DC and it's good fitting the genuine door seals, they do make a difference 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Recently the Defender seemed to develop a running issue at idle - but only after driving for around an hour.
It would cruise along quite happily but then when I came to a stop it would run roughly, almost as if it was running on three cylinders. Sounded like a Subaru on light throttle but then picked up again at higher revs. It felt as though one cylinder wasn’t getting fuel which was obviously apparent at idle but masked by the other cylinders/rotational mass at higher revs. After “the France incident” I suspected something wasn’t right with one or more injectors so figured this was a good place to start. A resistance test of each injector suggested they were all ok… I tested for signal at each injector harness connector using a noid test light which confirmed that each injector was getting power/pulse. Each fuel line to injector was getting fuel… So when the engine went into this rough idle state I pulled over and unplugged each injector one by one. Unplugging injector 1 caused the engine to almost die Unplugging injector 2 caused the engine to almost die Unplugging injector 3 caused the engine to almost die Unplugging injector 4 made no change to the running of the engine, it continued to run on three cylinders. Which suggested injector 4 was defective. I ordered a brand new (not reconditioned) Denso injector, fitted it, coded the ECU, got the engine up to temperature and did the injector learn process… Bingo, the engine has run lovely since so fingers crossed this marks the end of my engine woes? Time will tell… Interestingly when I removed the old injector the tip was bone dry, clean with slight rust - looked as though it had not been fuelling for quite some time. Probably since it stuck itself open in France! Moral of the story - don’t waste your time with reconditioned injectors, buy new. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge > 110 XS Double Cab |

Two 150 mile journeys done on the weekend. Defender is running well - plenty of grunt and no rough idle. Feeling hopeful that the injector was the last of the gremlins > 110 XS Double Cab

Three months on and with plenty of miles under my belt since faulty injector four was replaced... The engine hasn't missed a beat and the power delivery now its firing on on all cylinders is quite something. Hoping to do the North Coast 500 this year. > 110 XS Double Cab
