Vintage voltage on Quest tonight
Theyre doing up a S2a and dropping a tesla motor in

They haven't got the motor in yet but have blown 40k on the chassis and body restoration so far Shocked

Its not even a new chassis, they galvanised the old one..

I really think it’s dumb to put an electric motor in a Series.
What’s more greener than an ‘up-cycled’ Land Rover with it’s original lump?
Surely the charm of owning a Series is waggling the stick in the middle and then turning the ignition key, with hope that it bursts into life and you can then bimble off to the pub.
Land Rovers life cycle will outlast all Teslas.

Now there’s an old engine and a motor-less Tesla littering the Earth.

I honestly don't know quite how they arrive at the prices they do.


I appreciate the R & D for the brackets and battery box's but all the batteries and motors are from broken Tesla's, no one is putting new parts in when it comes to Tesla stuff.

A few years ago I did enquire about my 110 to convert to a tesla, The figure was 'starts at £70K.

At the time I could buy a Model S P85 Tesla (complete running car not a salvage) for £35K

I don't understand £35K to 'swap' the bits, then I would still have a complete telsa less batteries and motor and also a landrover engine and gubbins...




As for a Series or classic car with an Electric engine, I actually do see the point. Much less to go wrong, more likely to start, and in the wake of having congestion charges in large city's I would 100% rather drive a series than a Nissan leaf Smile You can still have the leavers... and use them if you wish or drive it like an auto (you can still can have a clutch) and obviously have high / low range. Messing with carbs, oil leaks, sourcing the correct petrol...


I'm not talking silly performance with the tesla motor but other motors are available (Hyper 9...)


Anyway I'm keen on this as my mate and I have a 'project' we are working on currently.


OOh and if you have solar anyway... your charging for free... then if you have heard of power walls that retain the energy in the day and store it for night... Imagine your series or classic car as a mobile power wall... Sat in the garage storing energy. Then at night it releases this energy Smile


I like the idea, especially if it can be done a lot cheaper Thumbs Up

Electric conversion aside, it was the figure of £40k they quoted to restore the chassis and axles and paint the car that caught my eye. That was before they'd started on the conversion!

I must admit, once they start producing reasonably priced 'drop in' electric motors I will be tempted to do the Mog Whistle

And that restorer didn’t seem to be short of work looking at the other landrovers in his workshop.
