When you look at ALL cars stolen in the U.K. in 2021 one car is favourite and it’s not a Range Rover Sport or a Range Rover or even a Defender………. It’s exactly what DaveT says above. Most stolen EV was the Mitsubishi Outlander.

..can someone demystify for me, why defenders (Puma) are hot pick for thieves?? I mean, in era of luxury SUV's and electronically over infested vehicles which people seems to buy 'en masse', why defenders are hot pick then?

Id say that the new stuff that they go after, has a bigger market for been parted out, over our defenders. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Because they are easy. I bet I could pinch over half the Defenders on this site, within a 15 minute window (per car😉) I could break it down over a weekend, and sell the bits over a few months on EBay etc. All I’d need is a decent socket set and an angle grinder. I wouldn’t know where to start with an Audi/BMW Etc. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

Cars get stolen
Desirable cars get stolen Desirable and available cars get stolen more than desirable and unavailable cars The balance between cars that are desirable, available and that then get stolen in quantity is no surprise, if there are only 10 ferraris and only 1 is left easy to steal then its hardly going to feature the same as 100 2010 RRS's...but as this is about those that are recovered, it shows there is good success here - so this is a positive new story This also doesnt reflect the age of the cars stolen either, nor reflect the total cars stolen...are these LR products New, few years old, 10yr old. The security technology has changed massively each year. I feel safer leaving this generation of Disco 5 and new Defender parked than any of the previous and we stopped taking the Puma defender(s) places due to theft, thats when you know its time to sell a car, because you dont use it or have to strip it down to use...wheres the fun in that Mike |

The number of vehicles stolen in Britain went up by three per cent in 2021, with nearly 48,500 cars taken.
The exact number of cars stolen in 2021 was 48,492, an increase of 1,617 on 2020. That means there were about 933 thefts per week, or 133 per day according to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency data. However, thefts are still well below pre-pandemic figures, with 58,642 vehicles stolen in 2019. The latest figures have been reported by the Mail Online following a Freedom of Information request by vehicle leasing firm LeaseLoco. 1. Ford Fiesta 3,909 2. Range Rover 3,754 3. Ford Focus 1,912 4. Volkswagen Golf 1,755 5. Mercedes-Benz C-Class 1,474 6. BMW 3 Series 1,464 7. Land Rover Discovery 1,260 8. Vauxhall Corsa 1,218 9. Vauxhall Astra 1,096 10. The defender still used the same tech from 60s so the know how will have been passed down. BMWs etc, all you need is a tricky fob scanner thing from china to get the code from the keyless fob, and your away. So maybe just as easy if you once you have had a play about, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
