1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green

[Sorted] Roof Tent

Does anyone have a Roof Tent they are wanting to get rid of?

I'm not sure what I want except soft top not hardshell (I like the sound of rain on canvas) and for 2 people so not too big. It will be going on my 110 CSW.

We are planning on using it fairly extensively in this country prior to some long distance expeditions in the future so don't want something on it's last legs just to try out.

What have you got (if anything) and how much would you want for it? 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I have this one that I could be tempted to part with for £500.

Its a hayburner.

I like it as it's not huge and quite light.

I'm probably going to show lots of ignorance here and hopefully be educated.

Having not seen the name around before I just googled "Hayburner roof tent" and got lots of "old skool" VW's with roof tents on them.

Have you got any more detail or a link I can look at please? 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

As you say, they were marketed at the VW market for some reason and I bought it off a guy who'd bought it for his golf but never got around to fitting it.

The better half has had a look at this (she is quite a driving factor in this as if I really needed it).

She is concerned that it might be a tad small (more so for the longer trips neither of us are exactly what you could call stick insects) and also the lack of details over manufacturer and any parts etc (should there be a need in the future to replace anything).

We think this is probably not the one for us. Many thanks for putting it up as a possibility though. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Zermatt Silver

Hi Phil,

Please ignore the fact I have 1 post!! I’ve been on here for years in the past but not logged in lately and had to re-register.

I have a Howling Moon 1.4 tourer with rear and side awnings (including back wall). All in canvass. We bought it all from Trek Overland some years ago but used it probably 25 times. It simply is the best I’ve ever used and has withstood the most violent of storms and serious drenchings without a hint of failure.

Happy to send photos privately if you’re interested.

Self-correction!! Realise I need to quote a price, sorry all.

£850 roof tent, ladder extension and rear awning (with original zipped in heavy duty groundsheet)
Plus
£200 side awning with all four walls.

Glasgow is a long trot from London.

I'm off next weekend to look at 16stone's Howling Moon if that doesn't work out I'll give it some further consideration.

I am all sorted now thanks to 16stone.

Guided tour of the tent and accessories in full and a cuppa before sorting the necessary and loading it up.

Just need to pick the correct roof rack up now and get shot of the Brownchurch. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.
