Anyone any experience of this? My daughter is looking for something to put a baseboard and pop up tent on for when she stays overnight at a horse show. Baseboard and tent will be put in place on site. She could have a friend with her who also has a pony.

So long as she can put her board and tent on it she'll be happy... Just wondered if it would be suitable for her overnights but I do not see personally why she should not be able to use it for overnighting. Having no experience of a tent on a roofrack I thought I'd ask those who know better! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

The only concern I would have is how the tend is going to be pitched. Obviously a pop up doesn't need to be pegged to the ground necessarily but they do (generally) get affected by wind quite a bit more than other tents and I wonder if tying the guys to the rack itself would put them at an angle which would provide sufficient support in windy conditions. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I had thought of fitting lashing points to the baseboard then she could affix the tent to these. Paddocks have this cheaper option with siderails
https://www.paddockspares.com/pm241-roof-r...nroof.html Like I said just for a couple of overnights at horsey events. The roof rack could used as necessary throughout the year. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

What’s wrong with just pitching the tent on the ground?
I’ve seen a few people that do something similar but I don’t really see why. If you want to sleep on the roof then buy a roof tent, it will be much safer and easier to deal with (erecting and putting away). Securing the tent to the roof won’t be the easiest thing to do and you don’t want it blowing off when you’re sleeping How often is she wanting to use that set up? If it is relatively frequent then investing in a roof tent may not be a bad option. The other thing to consider is where are you going to store the baseboard when driving if it isn’t going to stay on the roof I have a roof tent and have camped a few times in it without needing to unhitch the horse box but they aren’t cheap so unless you use them regularly it can be a bit of a waste of money |

I have a Rhino roof rack for my 90 and I think it’s a decent piece of kit, although I can’t vouch for it’s camping credentials. It’s only downside is the wind noise, for which reason my one spends most of its days languishing at the back of the garage, which is a shame really as I like the aesthetics of it when fitted.
