Ive got the nak one. Lovely piece of kit. Its built like a tank, the welds and powder coating are spot on. It has an extra support to take the weight of the wheel when the door is shut so theres no load on the pivot which also holds it dead still when on tracks. Not a rattle or squeek anywhere.

From a strictly technical point of view I feel the need to reply to this however I sense I’m getting into a debate with a competitor product which I don’t make a habit of doing in the public domain however there’s some very specific things you mentioned technically which I’ve only heard in emails forwarded to me by customers from others sooo…..
We use what are basically wheel bearings (timkin) so there’s no sagging… also serviceable. We considered the plastic bush route but from experience I’ve seen engineering polymers/bushes wear quickly especially in exposed environments (grit/mud/dust) we didn’t like the idea of the need for an extra support as when the bush wears the arm sags and catches on the support in the home position. I’d guess there’s always powdercoating scrapped off there and also the need for the support to be adjustable to move down as the arm sags and the bush wears…. Also the videos of some 16st bald bloke Standing on top of the wheel with the door fully open show how strong our design is. …. Ive not expeienced any wear in my plastic bush. I feel its a better option. There is minimal load on the bush 99% of the time when door is shut as the weight is taken by the support. The only actuation which will cause wear is opening and closing the door. Ive had mine or 2 years and had no issues and a friend has had one for 5 and again had no issues with wear at all. You're right in that the powder coating will start to wear as it slides on the support however you cant see that area at all and you definitely cant see the underside where in slides onto and frankly being stainless it doesnt matter. I have known one person have their bush split and they had it replaced for free by nakatanenga so saying its unserviceable simply isnt true. You can just replace it. The benefits are as it wheres there is no clunking or rattling, it will just sit on the support and any give in the bush the vibrations and shock is absorbed by bush itself unlike metal to metal contact.
Granted your wheel bearing approach is probably very effective but the naka route is very effective too, both have advantages and disadvantages. I dont see why you should have to shoot down other brands, surely letting customer feedback speak for itself from both companies is what really matters. When i was choosing my carrier i only saw good reports from both brands. Ive not seen the ore bearing set up in person but im sure it has its own flaws. If you get grit,sand and water in wheel bearings you use im sure they dont like it ether and as it wears the bearings will have to be adjusted and tightened to stop rattles and play. |
