EGR… Remap.. issues… blank off?
Fellow enthusiasts,

Has anyone had experience of a remap electronically closing the EGR valve… for it then to cause issues at a later date?

My 2015 Puma engine went all lumpy then died yesterday, showing a P0404-21 code. I thought the lumpy then dying thing was a bit odd… wasn’t expecting that for an EGR fault.

I believe the EGR still needs to be functional for the DPF regen.

If the EGR is throwing faults, is the best thing to get it replaced AND physically blanked off?

cheers,
Matt

edit: I had a BAS remap around 18 months ago... has been fine all this time and now this!

I had mine blanked off probably 3 years ago,

It was written into the map to tell it so,

No issues so far, although I 'think' a potential MOT fail? not that it ever has.

No more clattering when I switch off or error codes.

Thumbs Up

I have the BAS 170 tune on my 2.2 for about 40'000 km now. Works fantastic with the EGR closed under most circumstances, but of course the EGR does need to still be functioning. The EGR opens if the engine is over certain limits as self protection, as well as does the self cleaning at shutdown.
If anything, the tune should make the EGR last longer. Im sure Pete can help. Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭

Mine was deactivated by Pete when I had my remap last year - zero issues.

Give Pete a call, he will be helpful as always. Rgds.

The owner is responsible not the workshop Thumbs Up

It's also the ower who's going to pay for his cylinder head blown off and his pistons cracked.
All of these "typical" damages of Puma engines...

Engines that survive hundreds of thousands of miles in commercial transit vans - and are going to die inside some Defenders within the first two Ford Transit service intervalls. How on earth could that ever happen ?

Just to close this out in case it helps somebody else...

After the engine cutting out, and the EGR fault code above, then not wanting to start, then starting reluctantly after multiple attempts, then running like a bag of spanners, lots of dark smoke... new EGR valve fitted and it's good as new. 2 hours at local indie.

I didn't realise the EGR valve had such an influence over the performance of the engine.
