I am pretty convinced I’ve got some sort of problem! The BZP cap heads on my drive flanges looked a bit dusty, so with them now being on display I thought I’d replace them. At first I thought stainless, but then stumbled across titanium… my wife says them men in white coats are in their way round.

The bolts themselves are sexy though…

Hi Co1, they do look nice, but are they up to the job?
I believe the drive flange bolts are grade 10.9, which have a yield strength of about 940MPa.
Not an expert in Titanium, but quick google search is giving 434Mpa, so under half the strength specified by LandRover.
By comparison, common grade stainless steel, like A2/70 have a tensile strength of 700MPa.

I had the alternator on my old 90 almost fall off because I used stainless bolts and they fatigued and sheared off. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I guess the men in the white coats were the ones delivering these nice bolts why else would they be there? Now where did they come from. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Been while since I’ve updated. Not done a great deal other than turn over 90k miles.

I did manage to source a genuine NAS step rubber mat thing which looks loads better:

I’ve also been thinking about upgrading the dash pods to leather but couldn’t find something of the quality I wanted that didn’t say Twisted on it. Enter a very talented bloke called Regis Pike. Very happy with the result, matches the Recaro’s very nicely.

Standard intercooler split this week. Not bad for 90k miles I suppose. Went in the usual place:

Was a good excuse to go and see Pete Bell and get an upgrade!

Well, got the AC back up and running today. The intercooler is so big that the AC condenser had to be brought forward 20mm to accommodate. This meant that one of the hoses no longer fit, but I got a local agri AC guy to make me one up. The brackets also no longer fit so I made a pair of stainless ones instead. Got it gassed up this afternoon and all hunky dory!! Then gave it a good wash as it was absolutely filthy!

Hey you have an aftermarket AC system too Rolling Eyes Looks identical to the CoolAir one fitted to Miffy. I also had to "adjust" the position of the condenser and fit a slim-line fan. Which reminds me I have to repair the condenser as it has sprung a leak Rolling Eyes

Yes, it’s a CoolAirLogan system. I have to say, their customer service is exceptional. Very good indeed.
