I have a Land Rover 90 1986 with a 300TDI engine.
When driving along i noticed a whooshing noise when i put my foot down on the accelerator and a huge drop in power. I traced this back to the inter cooler system area under the bonnet where i have found there is no pipe that goes from the turbo boost elbow over to somewhere the other side of the engine bay.
I have ordered a new pipe but cant find anywhere which will do a new turbo adjustable boost elbow controller.

I can find boost elbows but they just look like the one which is already on there.

Can anybody help please

Hi. So there should be two small bore hoses attached to the turbo side of the engine bay. One is short and links from the turbo outlet to the turbo actuator. The second will go from the turbo around the engine to the injector pump, this is the vacuum advance pipe.

Which one are you referring to?

Hello,
Yes it's the pipe which goes across to the injector pump

Ok. Excuse the google photo. You can see the rubber actuator hose on this turbo. The hose that goes to the injector pump connects here and then snakes around to the I.pump.

IIRC correctly the pipe has a short piece of rubber hose that attaches to the turbo, which then turns in to a solid pipe from there.

Ok so looking at this photo again, the brass union has broken off and is dripping oil. Pipe has probably just fallen down. But you will need a new union.

A quick search has shown that they are not easy to find. You have two choices. Call up Turbo Technics and ask for a spare one, I am positive they must have a drawer full of them.

Or if you are looking for a quick DIY fix then plug the hole and fit something like this in to the outlet hose elbow and run the pipe to the injector pump https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273493990397?ha...SwNURbRW8y

Actually you have a third, forth and fifth option:

1) Replacement standard turbo - https://www.lrdirect.com/err4802-turbocharger-300tdi
2) Replacement uprated turbo - https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance...bocharger/
3) Second hand eBay turbo - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284611447430?ha...ondition=4 For example. Plenty of others on there

More expensive but they will both come with the unions and you get to upgrade your Defender as well Smile
