Seat Rattle / Movement

Hi,

Been trying to trace a rattle that came on over the period of about a week and have narrowed it to the front passenger seat (90 HT Puma).

Had a look at the weekend and tightened the 4 bolts mounting the seat frame to the seat box - run this morning says this didn't cure it!

One thing I did notice is that one of the seat runners has more up/down play in it than the other. How do the two parts run over each other - e.g. is it ball bearings in a plastic holder or something more crude? I'm wondering if the play is a sign of something that is worn out or broken. None of the large screws holding the seat to the runners looked to be loose, but if I hold my hand and apply pressure to the back of the seat, the rattle stops!

The extra play is most noticeable when the seat is fully pushed back - it's the rear nearside runner seems to be able to move up and down a fraction whereas the other seems solid.

Has anyone got a list of things that they've solved for squeaky seat?

Ideas appreciated!

Sorry, also same post in the maintenance section, but dawned on me that it's a Puma seat and also some people might not look in there, cheers.

Do you have a bulkhead behind? And loose springs?

Try the seat slightly forward so it's not against the bulkhead, that may be the squeak where it's in contact.

IIRC there are springs in the seat each side at the hinge area, most likely just out of sight. (Another possible cause)

Two areas to think of, other than that possibly the actual seat springs that take the persons weight but I think that may be the least likely.

2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 Heritage Edition SW Grasmere Green

Having the same problem on my heritage defender with a wobbling seat and a squeezing noise. When I put my hand on the seat the noise stops. What I did and solved the problem for a couple of months was to lubricate the rails where the seat is mounted. Is a bit hard without removing the seat but is doable, just move the seat back and forth so the lubrication can be applied along.
