Wales 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Zermatt Silver
Buying my first Puma Defender.
Afternoon all,

I have viewed a 2.4 TDCi 2008 (57) 110 XS at an LR Specialist.

I have a couple of questions.

Itโ€™s a 110 Utility - So 5 seater with the van type back. 1 owner vehicle. NO VAT to pay.

However, after doing a check on it, it comes back on a report as a SW (Iโ€™d have thought it would be a USW?) And ยฃ600 tax. I thought the Utility 110 was ยฃ275?

Is it normal for conflicting results for Defenders? Or have I got the tax bracket information wrong?

Hello BrickBox and Welcome

Type
Confusion over LR registration of the vehicle Type / Spec' is not unknown... but dig further with dealer.
(I have the LR issued Build Spec' of mine and it does not cover what left the factory, added extras were essentially missed... I now have this in another format)

Tax
Tax with a 2008 (57) is correct but unfortunate as post / late 2010 ALL Defenders got reclassified with the DVLA and a late 2010 or MY 2011 went from M1 to N1 on the Log Book (V5C) and the Tax (VED) effectively halved.
(Mine was built late August 2010 and 'held back' by dealer until first registration in early Dec to take advantage of this... LR knew it was coming this 'two camps' Tax Status now does favour late 2010 > Defenders on the resale market...)

Good Luck... SKIP

Brilliant- thank you for the information! Much appreciated! That puts my mind at ease.

I have asked and the dealer confirmed it is registered as M1 on the log book - so can you confirm that is the correct class?

Yes, correct pre-2010. From 2007 to 2010 only DCPU and (I think) full HT models were N1 and N1 VED rate.

Station wagons whether SW or USW were M1 and M1 VED.

Itโ€™s swings and roundabouts.
if N1 you are charged a lower Vehicle Excise Duty rate.
However if you live inside or travel into a congestion zone some of them donโ€™t ( currently) charge M1 but do charge N1 vehicles. And more and more of these zones are being created.
Just another thing to think about.
