Been a while since I last did mine but I think it is probably worthwhile to have a spare o-ring available to fit when you do it. I also removed the little filter screen from the head and gave it a clean with brake cleaner.
Guide here is good as always: http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Fpr.html Cheers, Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

fuel system air purge up date this post 02
Air purge. ignition to pos II, pump the throttle 5 times, you'll will see MIL flashing and you hear the fuel pump running, wait for 2 min. it should stop. off the ignition. wait 5 seconde, put to pos II, pump the throttle 5 times till the MIL flashes, wait for another 2 minutes and crank for 20sec or till it starts, which ever is first. Thanks Steve. I have ordered a genuine LR one (A bit more that £80 as mentioned on discovery2.co.uk). I might order a spare O-ring or two just to be sure.
Another job to do! As if the diesel leak at the filter end wasn't enough! 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Did mine Sunday. The thing to do early is get the bottom of the three bolts undone. It’s a Bstard of a place to get to and mine was really tight even snapped a snap-on UJ trying to undo it.
Remove engine lift point for extra room, and re-use old top fuel pipe but swap the o ring on the end. |

Cheers DS. On my TD5 the method of bleeding doesn't work - is that a later 15p/Disco2 feature?. For me its, turn on the ignition, let the pump run and hear it gurgle and whirl until it stops. Then start. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Did that once, was not particularly difficult, just fiddly to align the new gasket.
Do asap as it can lead to clutch slip. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

At least it is accessible on a Defender - doing this job on a Disco2 is truly awful and leads you to invent entirely new swear words.

Also making a mess on the drive. Along with the other oil leaks...Get one leak solved then onwards with the others.
I think the fuel leak is making the leaks look worse than they are. I imagine the waft from the fan will be blowing diesel around the side of the engine. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

I have replaced some FPRs - use only original LR seal between FPR and head gasket. Some cheap seals were just not good enough and leaking. With the original one, no problems ever.
And let the engine cool enough before starting the job. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

I have tried a few times to get this to work and so has a local LR experienced garage. All the way to the floor but never had success in using this method 1999 Defender TD5 110

I do not recall I needed to do any special priming. Just ignition on, and let the in tank fuel pump runs until it stops and then start the engine.
Edit: I did on a 15p (is it a 3pipe vs 2, or the other way round) compared to a 10p. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black Last edited by Dinnu on 11th Jan 2022 1:06pm. Edited 1 time in total |
