Cheers Landy Andy and I will attempt to get some under bonnet pics soon. Piffing with rain out there currently.

As far as I know the Safari snorkel was an original fitment from new as part of the options list. 90 is a 2007 registered/late 2006 manufacture. Access is very tight but the rubber molded hose from the back of the RAI in the wing passes under the MC (not solid section as per your sample tdi Safari details above but screw locations are not as per the td5 either?). This then had a short 2.5" steel stub fitted so it would connect with the original flexible air inlet hose that passes under the steering column linkage. The 'dump valve' was no longer fitted to the bracket as someone had been in there forced it and snapped that off, so it was 'floating'.

Unfortunately two different garages have been working on this 90 in the past few years. I would normally but available time gets in the way and against my 'ideal world' better judgement I handed it to the 'professionals'. They fix one issue and create a bunch of new ones. This problem stems from the latest gge after removing the drivers wing (to access the ABS mod). In addition to the intake pipework I now have a new rain leak above the pedal box Wink 2006 TD5 90 County

I think it original LR fitment it would be a Land Rover snorkel which would be a Mantec one with LR badge instead of Mantec I believe.

You could just cut out the back of the Safari snork and fit the original inner wing part. Especially as your not concerned about being water tight.

My air intake is standard from LR and am going to fit the Nugget stuff conversion so I can get rid of water drain, and know t will be water tight. So if you need any measurements or photos let me know.

A few underbonnet pics.

Hard to see the rear of the Safari through the wing install. I need to see whether the wheel arch lining can come out for better access?

OK, all done!

Plastic inner wing/arch removed which made access 100% easier.

Original Safari moulded hose from the RAI was loose (!) and rotated in the wrong position. Corrected.

Section of 63mm OD 304 tube fitted along with some 63mm ID silicone hose. This bridges the gap from the original rusty steel tube and the broken dump valve. Then connects to the original flexi up to the air box. Will be fine for now.

All back together and working! Steering checked from lock to lock and no rubbing either!

Also I more than likely found the source of the recent 'floods' under the dash on the drivers side. When the wing was off for the ABS modulator replacement it was refitted with the top bulkhead screw missing! Now replaced with some sealant on the face so 'hopefully' this was the rain water route!

Will check the air box in a few days to check water ingress...just in case? 2006 TD5 90 County

Great. Well done for sorting Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I’m waiting for it to be warmer and drier to attempt my Nugget fit, and have to remove/refit snorkel.

Hi sorry to hi Jack thread, but I have 2004 abs equipped Defender with a safari snorkel that I want to remove. Does this mean I can just remove it, fit a standard wing air intake grille?

Thanks

Mike

Yes. but you will have holes in wing and screen surround. And as shown above you may be missing some parts depending on how it’s been fitted. But that can be checked on, by checking inner wing.

As Landy Andy mentioned, of course you can. But...

You will be missing the inner wing plastic section with the stub that fits to the intake pipework and the grill. The grill is easy though. The other parts can probably be source and the hold in the window surround plugged.
