Given chances of getting a vehicle without paying over the odds, then price does not seem that high, given the engineering that must presumably go into it ~ "Each will be priced at €138,000 (around £118,000) excluding VAT and any further local market taxes."

That's five too many. I would have thought that sales figures for the convertible Evoque would have put them off. Just trying to decide which is worse, the convertible Defender or the Morgan CX-T SUV. Defender 90XS SW

This just follows the flow of Defenders historically, Land Rover exploring many avenues to offer their Defender to different audiences.

Its not for me but I can see 5 being snapped up with demand for more. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

I've just read the linked article but could not see that Land Rover had anything to do with these convertibles, looks like an independent company converting production Defenders? 110 SE D200 MY21 Tasman blue

Nothing to do with JLR.

This is the chap that did the Range Rover coupe after JLR cancelled the project.

Wheels looked interesting, but I think I prefer the originals:

I think it might be as unsuccessful as the rag top Evoque in the U.K. even the 60th Anniverary soft top Defender 90 didn’t sell particularly well, although I do see one of those around and it belongs to a local farm and is a working if very impractical farm vehicle. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Wouldn’t it make more sense, financially and better suited to certain markets (US and Australia) that JLR should reduce the tow rating by installing smaller brakes to fit better wheels and tyres suitable for off road use?

That way the no doubt high costs of changing the body work for the very few would be offset by selling more off road worthy vehicles for the masses.

Let’s face it not everyone needs to tow period, let alone at the maximum towing weight of the Defender. Hence Jeep and Bronco have lower towing capacities because the parent companies know that they have other vehicles more suited for the consumer without changing brands.

This is a vanity project for vain people with more money than taste……whilst the enthusiast and true overlanders are ignored again by a company that like the history, but hates the image.

In fact, I would say the DC100 concept vehicle looked better as a soft top.

Wow, something we both appear to wholeheartedly agree on Grenadier. Shocked

The blue version looks like a Clown's car. Perfect for Cheshire. The others are vulgar and not well executed from the look of the photo's. But I do like the white steelies.

lets pray they keep it to the exclusive 5 cars, or abandon the idea altogether so someone else can make a decent rag top version at some later time.

Maybe it should also only be available with the V8 to keep prices sky high and affordable by fewer…….. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
