Afternoon all,
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of trailer servicing costs, in particular Ifor Williams? The other half works for a local Animal Rescue Centre who have an twin-axle Ifor Williams Horsebox. The cost of the service on it last time it turns out was £1000 which seems a little steep to me. Apparently there was nothing they knew of which was wrong with the trailer when it went for the routine service and the invoice is not itemised. I know Ifor parts are somewhat expensive but even if it had had all four sets of brake shoes replaced I cant see that getting upto £1000. The service was done in South Yorks/North Notts (i.e. not London area). Cheers, Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

I did make some enquiries to have mine service a while back but the estimates were eye watering so did it myself in the end.
I have an Ifor Williams GD105... Aka general duty builders trailer and can't see there is much to go wrong with it. Brake system, wheel bearings and structure. I gave it the once over and ended up putting brake cables and pads on it. Once you work out what brakes you have fitted (see here http://www.uk-trailer-parts.co.uk/identifying-trailer-brakes/ ) it's all simple stuff and parts are generic and reasonable. Do they need to have it serviced by an authorised service place for insurance/corporate reasons? > 110 XS Double Cab Last edited by hank on 20th Dec 2021 4:58pm. Edited 2 times in total |

Yeah sadly so or I would suggest a more sensible solution.

I also have an HB511 horse trailer.
It was serviced a couple of years ago and had a full service with the brakes relined and few minor other items. Total cost £435 in Sussex |

Parts for ifor Williams are pretty reasonable if it’s axles or hitches, it when you get on to body work they can get dear.
I look after a number of ifor Williams trailers and more recently overhauled the brakes on a HB510, which included brake shoes/back plates /cables/hub nuts and caps the parts was around the £350 mark for the parts. They have really over charged you! Cheers Will 2005 90 XS 1954 86'' Series 1 tilt 1968 88” 2A 200tdi 2002 110 Hardtop |

Can see how anyone can charge a grand, let alone pay it, without a itemised invoice I am a Brian James dealer , and even on a tri axle trailer service, you would really struggle to get to a grand, It must have had shoes, cables, all lights and a rewire for that California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

I paid £230 for my Hb511 to be serviced. I feel robbed when I pay £210 for the approved workshop to service my twin axle caravan which at least includes a electric/gas/water service also never mind the one year old HB511.

I had my single axle caravan serviced last week. It was found that the brake linings had disintegrated requiring new shoes and because the drums had been scored they were replaced too.
The cost of this work added another £460 to the bill. If it was a twin axle 'van then obviously the cost would have been twice that amount and taken the bill to close on £1k. Maybe something like this was needed on your Ifor, but obviously an itemised bill/explanation is needed. |

Thanks all, after a bit more digging it turns out that the service was done by a local trailer place, not an IW dealer/service centre anyway. Seems that they have just been being ripped off!
On this basis I have suggested that they approach the large caravan sales/service place which is only a couple of hundred yards down the road from them to see if they are willing to at least inspect and adjust brakes annually. Cheers, Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Brakes and bearings on our tipper came to about £600 odd and we fitted them ourselves. That’s got two axles. The ram isn’t too expensive but bit of a pig to fit.

I have two IWT and never bother with servicing. I do manage to store them inside which helps and then swap them in for new every few years which is probably as economical as paying for service. Used values are really strong.
