I am quite sceptic about putting
 into my engine too. I went to buy a fuse in a moto-shop and then had this impuls to get a bottle of Ceratec and give it a try.
I was surprised by the effect in a big way. I was not expecting to see any significant improvement and then I looked at the fuel level and trip distance. So, I put fuel to make counts. That was the first fuelling when I got 9.2l/100 km. After I made almost 400 km on a highway and I put fuel again to see those 10l/100km (a bit more than 10, because I put the tank really full). I have been having, as you can read in my first post of this thread, bad fuel economy for 2 years and now this surprise. I am still not sure what to think about it... I'd replace the injector seals and redo the pilot injection learn.

So, new update on my fuel economy. The car had been parked for 2.5 months with full tank. After driving on mixed roads for around 900 km I put the tank full again and the fuel consumption went up again to 11.65l/100km (8.58km/l, 24.24 iMpG). I am confused and don't know what to think about the situation. Was the Ceratec just a coincidence or it had an effect indeed but short lasting... Or maybe the diesel in my fuel tank is not so good after 2 months... After I did 400+ km on a highway and didn't fill up but I am sure that the results would be even worse. Hi.
Years are passing and the fuel efficiency of my car is not improving. I would say - it's gradually getting worse... The car is serviced regularly. ECU does not record any errors... EGR has been removed. I rarely use the A/C. Do I have unrealistic expectations? Sometimes the car goes below 10 liters but it's exceptional and there is no clear pattern here... Well, well, seems that I have killed two birds with one shot - changing the radiator solved the overheating problem (see: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56815.html) AND the fuel economy problem!

I guess it is the internal corrosion. Something you don't see and is very difficult to notice and diagnose.
I knew about the overheating problem because I have a digital gauge showing me the real-time temperatures (water and oil). Without it you wouldn't notice anything until 115C when the ECU cuts the fuel. I was not believing that the radiator is causing the problem, but seems that it really was. The OEM replacement is quite affordable and definitely worth it! Seems that they last +/- 8 years and need to be replaced. Probably depends on a few variables - coolant quality, frequency of use etc. My car rests for months and is used only during holidays which can make the corrosion worse. I have a new radiator in my garage, the idea is to replace the old visco-radiator for testing. Sorry for the missunderstanding . Greetings Defender 110 TD5

..i did noticed slight difference in fuel consumption, between Petronas and Shell fuel..truck was used on same way(city drive), so i guess, fuel seems to contribute for some reason..

Maybe a simple flush out of the radiator and coolant system would help things. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

The OAT coolant is supposed to have a life of approx 5 years if I remember rightly.
Draining and re bleeding isn’t as complicated a job as it first seems, the more difficult part is having to go out of your way to dispose of it correctly. And that being made more of a pain in the backside than it should be. Is there much work involved with the rad replacement? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |
