England 2008 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Alaska White
No worries, I’ve found a place that does camper conversions in salisbury and a little bird tells me they might do pop tops, I’ll find out in the next couple of days…

framing almost finished, cladding underway
A bit more progress,

Framing almost complete, stainless underfloor fitted and a good chunk of the cladding on.

Hoping to get the outer buttoned up before the weather really turns.

nice rig. Never mind the dimples, they only add character and save you from the big cringe the first time you bump a tree branch. Point of caution having driven bigger trucks, I think your rear wheel to top corner distance is likely to cause you grief when going over humps or passing under trees etc. Your proposed roofline will be hard to judge from the cab as its not natural to the vehicle and also will shift significantly with any incline/decline. Personal opinion but id go a full roof level pop top if I had my turn again. looks like you have the skills to do the job yourself too. Looking forward to seeing you progress. All the best

Dale

Thanks Dale,

Im hoping the 'dimples' make it less nickable.

We really struggled to pick a height that suited our needs as well as keeping a relatively low profile. As with everything its all about compromises, not planning any serious off roading so fingers crossed it doesn't become an issue.

Pop top is full roof and plans are progressing, everything just takes so much longer than i thought.

Thanks

Scott

Great looking 130! I'm (very slowly) in the progress of converting my 130 into a pop top camper. Bit different as mine is a truck cab with a long quadtech on the back. I've bought a T25 canvas and some scissor hinges and intend to make a fame to fit them. Depends on how much width you want though, mine will only be in the centre which gives about a double bed width. I suspect I'll quite often crack my head on the step in width when the bed isn't in place.

I was thinking of a custom back for my 130 chassis, and wondered if anyone could recommend an off the shelf unit.
New to this site, but need to make some progress as this project has stalled in 2021, and I would like some progress in 2022.
I have bought an ex SSE maintenance truck, very clean and well worth doing properly.
Thank you

That's very similar to mine. My plan is to use the box body with a T25 canvas on a poptop.

That would give very little headroom I think.

It will give about 7 feet at the high end diminishing to 5 odd at the far end where I plan to have storage and the water tank together with batteries. Like all these things it's a compromise, live with reduced headroom whilst having decent clearance.
