Hi all,
I've been wondering for a little while why the LCD display on the left of my binnacle (Beneath the rev gauge) is always off and what it is meant to display. After looking on Google this evening I realised there is also a large LCD in the centre of the Puma binnacle which is also always off. I have found a thread in the Australian Land Rover forum (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/223260-activating-dashboard-display-puma-2.html) where someone else noted the lack of display in the centre LCD and it turns out that this is blanked off for Defenders but was used for the Discovery and Freelander. It also seems to suggest that the Defender does have the ability to display the data for these displays but they were just blanked off from factory for whatever reason. My question - Is there a way for these displays to be activated? Not necessarily through the standard Defender binnacle but if you were to use a Discovery 3 binnacle, would the information be displayed correctly then? Does anyone have any experience with this? Please let me know your thoughts. Cheers, George |

The standard Defender binnacle doesn't have displays in those locations - they're just blanked off. I think there may be a single warning light in the centre panel of a 2.2?.
A FL2 panel won't work at all. Despite it looking the same, the basis of the software that drives it is completely different. The D3/RRS panel is potentially compatible but would almost certainly require some custom files to make it do something. I think the centre display is the trip computer on a D3, as well as showing warnings for things that mostly don't exist on a Defender. The left hand panel contains warning lights rather than an LCD display but again, they're for things that generally aren't applicable to a Defender. In short, it's one of those things that looks really simple at first glance but in practice is hugely complicated and, as far as I know, has not been worth anybody's effort to do.
