^^^ Not quite; that's the trailer breakaway attachment plate which was a modification for in service vehicles.
For the Td5/Puma defender LR say to use KNK100090K which is just a piece of angle iron that bolts under the crossmember (like the DB adjustable hitch has) and an extended version of the plate above that reaches down and is bolted to said angle iron. Dead easy to make if you've got some thick steel kicking about. Some google info here on it <----- |

A receiver hitch works well too, and opens up a vast range of other attachment options.

You can even use your receiver hitch for your NATO hitch if the height work for you.

Interesting, where did you get the straight-through 2" receiver adaptor from? All the ones I have seen are drop plates. Or is it just a sawn-off and redrilled drop plate? --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

^^ Mine came from Safari-Equip, via Brendan and Barbara at 4x4Overlander. I can't find it on the safari-Equip website, at present listed as out-of-stock on 4x4Overlander. In addition to the standard type, I had a special made as well on a longer shaft to fit my front receiver and clear the winch.
Although listed as designed for a NATO pintle it is of course drilled for standard BS Au24 four-bolt coupling (four holes 13.5mm diameter (or 33/64") at 85.75mm x 44.45mm (3.3/8" x 1.3/4") centres) so will mount any standard four-bolt hitch (for example a DB 5-tonne jaw and pin coupling). https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/nato-hitch/ |

Safari Equip sell the receiver mounts for £168 on their website.
https://www.safari-equip.co.uk/shop/land-r...-td5-tdci/ The ad looks weird in that the photo is only of the the actual attachment and not the mounting part of the receiver. I've just bought one however and it comes with all of the kit. The nato hitch receiver without the drop plate can be found here: https://extreme4x4.co.uk/products/quickly-...o-receiver As always you need to read the small print and depending on what you're fitting it to it might not be approved.... I bought the NATO hitch adapter second hand but suspect that it's the Safari Equip one. I tried to buy new from 4x4 Overland but was told they were out of stock with no expected date, unfortunately.
Extreme 4x4 also list them but it's not clear if they have stock: https://extreme4x4.co.uk/collections/qd-re...o-receiver Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? For a sankey trailer you want the nato hitch in the centre of the crossmember. So using the 2" receiver hitch I have, I use a drop plate but turned upside down. About perfect to raise the nato hitch to sankey height.

I’m thinking (just thinking!) of a penman trailer….. been reading that super long thread about you nato hitch perverts…. Disgusting!
Anyhow, if I were to try and join this band of disgraceful individuals, I need to extend my “spreader plate” (think?). Is it a case of buying a new one that incorporates the top threaded bolt holes in the cross member or is there an add on thing. Unfortunately it looks as though the current offering covers half the bottom holes. I could however doctor this if there is a simple add on. I do still need the lower tow ball for my regular trailer. Looking at a few posts above, Vitesse has pretty much what I’m after. Is this purchased or a home made special? Click image to enlarge |

I've got a slightly different towing set-up to you but it had the same issue i.e. the lower holes on the crossmember were obscured by the tow bar hardware. I cut another piece of similar gauge steel to the existing tow bar bracketry and welded the new plate to said bracketry so that it covered the remaining holes on the crossmember which the NATO hitch would use.
This appears to be the same way as the picture that Vitesse posted above. The picture below probably explains it better than my description, albeit showing it before the upper plate was welded to the existing towing equipment. Nothing is welded to the rear crossmember itself though, should I want to remove it at a later date.
