Ten man-hours seems high but not totally unreasonable to me. If I was doing the job (working on my own, out of doors, and at ground level on my driveway) I would expect to get it done in eight hours or so. With a four-post lift and more agreeable working conditions I would expect it to take me about six hours.

If you are going for a LOF clutch, have a gander at their one piece output shaft, I fitted one a few months back and it's a lovely bit of kit.
FYI I did that job over two very easy Saturday mornings so agree with Mr Wolf time wise Oh woe, oh woe My crusty old landrover, It will not go. |

I would have thought that 10hrs is quite speedy
Perhaps I like to work a snails pace, but I am also cleaning (almost polishing) all parts that I take, off, inspect every bolt, every thread, every mating surface before re assembly. But I only work on my cars. At work, glad that I get paid by the hour and not by the job 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

A timely question.
A colleague in work has just had the lof output shaft and Powerspec clutch fitted last week, he was charged 10 hours labour for the work. |

At £900 labour I'm tempted to fit it myself.
I also need to replace the rear discs, pads and callipers; I'd love to sort the bearings at the same time too. I could get a serious amount of kit for the money, but not having a driveway / garage kills the idea. To be honest and not wishing to sound over dramatic, not having a driveway is the bane of my existence at the moment! 2011 CSW XS 90 |

This might sound a bit out there but I have heard of places that rent garage space, some even with lifts....might be worth a quick google, you never know. Oh woe, oh woe

As it goes I subbed out the wheel bearings, words like " pre-load " and "shims" put me off a little bit.
Admittedly I only changed the out put shaft, so I didn't have to burrow that far in, but the biggest thing for me was not crushing my skull with the transfer box once I had unbolted it. Oh woe, oh woe My crusty old landrover, It will not go. |

There's a good video on the Land Rover Tool Box channel about doing the wheel bearings on TDCIs.
He suggested that you use a dial gauge to work out what size spacer you need and then order the appropriate one. There's only four or five sizes, so I was intending to order two of each and would send back the unused ones. 2011 CSW XS 90 |

Thank you for recommending BG Landrovers Mother superior.
I spoke to Tom over there today. Sounded like a genuinely decent guy and knew what he was talking about in terms of defenders. Booked in for January and he's quoted £500 to fit both the clutch kit and the output shaft. How did you get on fitting it wyvern? 2011 CSW XS 90 |
