66% Price Mark-up. How is this even legal!?
This is a '£66,665' vehicle, being advertised at £110,000!

To begin with, their RRP is over by £3k - even with the MY23 price increase.
And then, they seem to have whacked on a cheeky £43,335 for the hell of it...

It caught my eye as I've just ordered a D250 X-Dynamic with more options (7 seats, Driver Assist) for almost half this advertised price..

Good luck, Beadles..

You could understand them raising the price on a used vehicle but on a brand new one it does seem a bit OTT, although their London branch seem to be taking the Censored even more Shocked Land Rover DEFENDER 110 XS Edition 3.0 5dr RRP £61,910 up at £161,910 Shocked

I'm surprised Land Rover are happy with these type of practices Confused Cheers Ian

Why would it be illegal?

No one is forcing anyone to buy it.... if it's too much then move on.

It’s a used or ore-reg demo car, dealers can ask what they like for them. JLR only controls the price of new ones.
The dealership near me has used New Defenders on their website similarly marked to the one you are commenting about. Market forces but if someone pays that much over market price for a used one (and the dealership will certainly not have paid anywhere near that for it) someone is going to suffer crippling depreciation in a few years time.
Last time mine was in for a warranty job they asked if their used car buyer could value it with regard to buying it from me. I asked them if they would match that days valuation from WBAC at £68000 for a 16 months old 14000 miler D240 First Edition - never heard another thing back from the dealer’s used car buyer! I suspect that they were going to offer CAP valuation then resell it at a huge mark up as they had a 6000 miler 6 month old D250 3.0ltr First Ed on the showroom floor stickered at £110,000…… Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

It's only an invitation to treat, they can advertise it for any price they wish. The fool is the person who buys it, and there is no shortage of fools.

Both of those adverts say they are new and there is no mention of pre reg or ex demonstrator Confused Cheers Ian

Also....

There are a Lot of people with a lot of money, they don't want to wait for their spec, they just want what ever the latest model is...

Near my parents there is an Overfinch showroom, they add bigger wheel, trim, leather to JLR range, in the showroom is a 110 with stitched leather, the leather is £14,000 now I think that's quite a lot some people however will not question it.. Urban are the same with parts adding making the cars over £100K easily.

Of course, the standard economic principles of supply and demand and the consumer's willingness to pay usually governs pricing.

But in many countries including the US, price gouging is technically illegal. The UK is lagging behind in such consumer protection. (no surprise - see petrol prices now the supplies are back to normal levels..)
Gouging is usually more applicable to critical consumables - toilet rolls, hand sanitizer, etc..

I do think it's an interesting question today - when vehicles, new and old are in such short supply, whether 'price gouging' could ever be applied to new cars. Especially in this case, where the advert clearly states the RRP, then blatantly whacks on £45k more..

I guess Value will always be quite subjective. But what this has further solidified for me - is that Beadles are either mad, or extremely greedy. As a result, they will certainly not be taking my money any time soon.

Picking up my XS phev a week today and 4% off list price, looks like a bargain compared to these.

As Blackwolf said, more fool the person the buys it at that price, IF it sells at that price.

bonkers. Mind you my dealer is telling me they have only been allotted 25 Discovery 5 builds for the whole of 2022 and other models are not far off so i'm sure dealers will be trying everything they can. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I'd be interested to see if you could get a PCP type deal on that, especially a back-loaded one.

I was wondering the same. I'm pretty sure that people will hand back once they realise that the vehicle is worth a lot less and they are in a fair bit of negative equity

Also how much are people declaring the value of the car to be when it comes to insurance valuations?
Surely the insurers must raise an eyebrow when you declare a car worth £62000 new to be £110,000 now? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
