When I got mine it didn't show anything in the update section, after a couple of weeks I got an update to 2.1.6 and then a couple of weeks later I got the update to 3.0. Unfortunately there is no way to force it to download, you will just have to wait for it to notify you that there is an update available. Also depending on which version of the software you have you may have to let it update to 2.1.6 or 2.1.7 first as that is needed before 3.0.0 can be installed. A dealer could maybe tell you what version of the software you have but you would probably have to take it in and let them plug it in, which I can't see them doing that out of the kindness of their heart I would just sit back and enjoy the rest of the car and wait for it to appear, they do seem to be rolling it out quite quickly. Cheers Ian

On Thursday last week I got an update …………. but it was 2.1.6a not the 3.0 I was expecting! Is it possible that early builds like my (February 2020) D240 First Ed won’t get the 3.0 update?
I’ve just taken delivery (last Friday) of a Mini Electric and I can say that I am decidedly p**sped off with the wireless ACP. As soon as I get into the car my audio system immediately switches from DAB to streaming music, I prefer to listen to the radio in the car. Have yet to find a way for the BMW system to not default to ACP without turning off the Bluetooth in my phone and then I cannot use the hands free phone system………. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Quite a few are updating in Oz according to the owner groups on FB, vehicle needs to have 2.1.6 or 2.1.7 as interim release before 3.0 upgrade. Had 3.0 for just over a week now yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

There is a logic to it, but im not sure what it is exactly - you will get it, everyone is. It pushes updates in a pattern from what ive heard, so as you only have just got a you will have to wait a while, then meet the conditions (it has to download the thing) before youll get the next. What was interesting i had .7 but clearly not a, its now got a so i think in 3 weeks v3 will land. There are ways to get it pushed, but nothing normal people can do Mike |

One way to get the 3 update……………. Have a warranty claim on something else so it has to visit the service bay! Something I’m not keen to do as its had too many trips in to cure rattles and they are still there or have returned…….
As an aside- I took delivery of a Mini Electric last Friday as a 2nd car - a £32000 EV with stiff suspension it is totally rattle free driving along the A811 to Stirling and back whereas the Defender rattles like mad on some sections. Mini has even listened to the complaints I made with my previous Countryman PHEV’s papier-mâché pano roof blinds and replaced them with fabric and rattle free items! The suspension might be stiff but the ride on coils is as smooth as the Defender’s on air springs, really impressed with it. Still waiting for my car, but I’ve been reading up about what OS 3 gives extra to Pivi Pro. Just found an article from Amazon that you can now add Alexa if you have OS 3. Anybody done it and does it work ok.

This article seems to show how to add Alexa to OS 3. I know the new RR has it that’s why I did the initial search. The new RR has pivi pro. I also came across a Facebook page where someone had been told that Alexa was coming to the Defender, he was shown a letter from LR. 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

Before... disappearing into thin air along with his YouTube videos, Damian Dinning did say on his Facebook post that 3.0 was "the first of a number of major updates" coming in the next few months. My guess is that JLR will want to keep the Pivi Pro software and options as consistent as possible among all models, to make future development, bug fixes and updates easier across the range. So, I would be surprised if one of the next "major updates" didn't also bring Alexa to the Defender (and the 21 Disco, Velar, Jags, etc.) 2020 NAS Defender 110 HSE 5-seater / Silver / Khaki / Black Pack / Black Roof / Satin Film / Cold Pack / Off-Road Pack / Advanced OR Pack / Comfort + Convenience Pack / Sirius + HD radio / HUD / Meridian Surround

Luddite alert……….
I have Alexa built into the BMW system in my Mini, struggling to find out why I need it in a car………… it’s no better than LR’s voice activation, still refuses to find places with odd phonetics in the name! I watched Bjorn Nyland’s latest video 1000km EV test of the single motor Polestar 2 and the Alexa or equivalent failed totally to find any of the Norwegian and Swedish towns he was asking routing to.
