Battery maintainer advice needed
Greetings gentlemen

I have a dual battery setup consisting of two Varta LA80 AGM 80ah with a Cyrix CT VSR. (Nakatanenga setup)

The Cyrix materials state that it works both ways- ie if charging the aux, it will flip over to the main to charge that one.

I want to put a CTek charger on them for the winter.

Should I attach it to the aux? To the main? I want to maintain both as they are equally expensive batteries.

Would the 5.0 be enough or would the 7.0 be needed?

Thanks in advance, it’s my first battery maintainer of this type. Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭

If you have an automatic charging relay I would charge the main battery and then the relay will trip and charge the aux when the main is charged

In fact that is what Cyrix recommend it seems

As above,

I have 2 optimas and a ctek, the solenoid will automatically switch over when the main battery is satisfied.

Wire it in to whichever is easier, it will connect both and the effect will be the same.

I've never had any luck charging this way through a VSR. I've always had the problem that when the battery being charged reaches the connection voltage to trigger the VSR, the other battery then drags the voltage back down to the point the VSR disconnects again. Then just get a slow cycle of the VSR opening and closing.

I can't figure out why this happens, but it does. It may my charger doesn't have a big enough current (3.8a) to sustain the voltage when the 2nd battery connects. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Bluest it's probably your charger being too weak. I have a CTEK 10 Amps and the VSR (National Luna) will disconnect if one battery's charge is substantially lower than the other one's, hence dragging the combined voltage below the VSR's threshold. With a weaker charger this could happen earlier.

Because of that I have wired a switch into the VSRs supply to switch it off. Then I charge both batteries separately (each one having their own CTEK plug). This is also important when you recondition a flat battery!
