Cancelled orders.. what are your alternatives?
Having just put down my MY23 deposit, and reading all the headaches MY22 folks are having with de-slotting and cancellations, I am keeping a close eye on the potential (arguably better!) alternatives.

For me, if worst came to the worst, I think I'd be looking at:
LR Disco
LR RR Sport
BMW X5
BMW X3 (more capable offroad than the X5?)

In the event your defender was wrenched from you, what would you consider as an alternative?

As I need a commercial vehicle for work I'm sort of stuck waiting for the Defender. Plus if you were in the market for a Defender, you wouldn't look at 1/2 of the options in the poll. 110 D250 SE HT
110 USW SOLD
RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it
VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys

Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD

Big enough boot for dogs

United States
New member here from the US. I've just ordered a new 110S. By the time my order was placed on Nov 5th, it was an MY23. JLR still hasn't accepted it, so I have no idea when I'll see it. Next summer, I hope.

I'm replacing a 2017 X3; I would politely quibble with XplusY - I wouldn't take the X3 off road at all. Not built for it, and not protected properly. A dirt road is about all I'd be brave enough to try.

Here in the US, I believe the obvious alternative for a Defender is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (not sure if it's sold in the UK?). Similarly well-behaved on road, and very capable off road, with similar engineering (independent suspension, and a lot of electronics in place of mechanical locking differentials, etc.). A new model was just released; the Trailhawk variant isn't that much less expensive than the lower-level Defenders, and they're pretty luxurious inside.

Just before I placed my order, Jeep revealed the plug-in hybrid JGC 4xE, which can go 25 miles/40km (on road) on battery alone, and will come in the Trailhawk variant. Very appealing, but the lead time is probably at least as long as the Defender, and I'm not ready to sign up for the very first model year of an entirely new drive train from Stellantis.

So... I'm waiting patiently, driving my X3 on road.

I cancelled my order yesterday, so I'm actively trying to find alternatives. It's not as easy as it sounds, as there aren't very many cars I like as much as the Defender.

Currently, I'm considering:

1. Macan GTS, the facelifted version. I test drove the previous model when I originally test drove the Defender. I preferred the Defender, and I thought the dealer was better. Wait times on the Macan are around a year, depending on which dealer you go to.
2. Giulia Quadrifoglio, though the technology is a bit out of date (no LED headlights, no 360 degree cameras, etc).
3. DS4 - a completely different type of car. According to my local dealer, they won't have one in the showroom until December or January.

I see the Mitsubishi Shogun on there. When do Mitsubishi pull out of the UK? It seems to have been on the cards for a while now. There was a time when I would have willingly had a Shogun, but I think an X5 would be my choice although I like the Touareg Thumbs Up

Full Fat Range rover easy Thumbs Up

Having driven the new Defender and really wanting one when it came out I was not as impressed as I should be spending that much on a car.

I kept the Defender I have and bought a Full Fat,

Best of both Worlds now. Its So comfortable and smooth, feels very special.

I like the full fat but its just not me.... however that said I didn't think I would go back to an X5, having had two previously.

I think the X5 ticked the box because of the hybrid arrangement with the 24kwh battery / straight 6 - best of both worlds.
