Guys - I need a bit of help here! I'm just ordering the fluids for an early-life oil change.
Happy on Engine and Diffs (already got these in my Opie checkout waiting to buy). Not too confident on the Gear box or transfer box. Suggest I'll stick with (or as close to) manufacturer recommendation especially whilst in warranty. Transfer Box: The OPIE site recommends the Castrol product: Castrol Axle EPX 80W-90 (formerly EPX 80w-90) gear oil There's no data in my manual. Gearbox: Manual recommends Castrol BOT 130M - as others have stated - can't find it! Castrol Website says Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 OPIE site says Castrol Universal 75w-90 semi-synthetic gear oil (formerly Castrol Syntrax universal) Am I being overly fussy? At least on a R380 it was always MTF94...there's too much choice? Any ideas/advice please? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Tbox: 75W90 or 80W90 GL-4 or GL-5
Gbox: 75W90 GL-4 (not GL-5) that is all you need to know. Synthtetic last longer than mineral. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

Thanks, MK, that's what I thought having read the forum, but the Opie site says:
So Opie are recommending an oil for the Gearbox which meets GL5... Not sure I feel confident about buying it... Think I need to buy the GBox oil elsewhere... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I use Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil in the transfer box and Millers Oils CRX 75w90 NT Competition full synthetic transmission oil for the gearbox. As for the diffs I use either a generic gear oil (Molytex EP90), Millers Oils Classic Differential Oil 90 (Formerly Classic EP 90 GL5) or the Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil, all available from opie oils
Front diff : 1.7litres Rear diff : 110 = 2.26litres, 90 = 1.7litres Transfer Box: 2.3litres MT82 Gear Box: Initial Fill = 2.4litres GL4 Fully Synthetic, Service Fill = 2.2 litres HTH Brian. |

I believe the "official" line is that a gear oil change needs 2.2l as the "full" capacity is 2.4l but 0.2l remains trapped inside - if I'm wrong please tell me (doing mine soon - using Motul Gear 300) Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

That is correct Initial fill is 2.4litres when new and then in service drain and fill is 2.2litres.
