Is there not a web site with a number plate / vehicle checker that you can get the official answer from?
I sympathise as when family is involved it suddenly feels like this country is throwing up invisible Berlin Walls. I fear the next marketing ploy to sell EV’s will be ‘Want to see loved ones, buy Electric’, ‘Granny is on her last legs, want to say goodbye, buy Electric’. You did not say what year you truck is? |

Hi Mark.
It's a K reg (I thought 1993)but the vin decoder says July 92. But that's probably the difference between registered date and build date (decoder gives build date). |

Possibly an example of the least helpful website ever created: https://cleanairgm.com/ There's no licence plate checker (unlike the London version), just a is it a van or a car. It's not launched yet, so hopefully clearer in the future. |

It sounds like you have a 200 Tdi which may have come off the production line as a Hard Top (Van) and at some stage somone has put side windows in it . I seem to remember in the dim and distant past that this changed the tax (VED) status.
Again not sure but perhaps at some time DVLA had to be notified of this change which would make it PLG. Jeff Ex 1968 Series 2A Ex 90 TD5 Ex D3 Ex D4 |

Have you tried the London checker? https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/?intcmp=36576
Not sure if directly comparable, but should be a good steer. |

According to that it gives the following
Green LAND ROVER 90 DEFENDER 4C United Kingdom Is there anywhere that tells you what the different classes are? I can't see it on that site. |

Mick, I’m in a very similar situation with my privately owned 2011 110 station wagon regarding the Bradford Clean Air Zone. I use it for leisure activities only (no commercial use). After making enquiries i’ve been notified for CAZ purposes, based on its taxation class being N1 (which all 2011 on Defenders are), my vehicle is hence classed as a “van” and will therefore attract the daily charge for entering the zone when it goes live in a couple of months. There is a possibility that certain “leisure vehicles” such as motorhomes and horse boxes will qualify for exemption. That’s a work in progress for the authorities. Even if that category is accepted, I am sceptical that a home DIY based modest camper conversion would meet their requirements of leisure vehicle We shall see. Either way, I won’t sell the Defender. I just won’t visit CAZ’s wherever they spring up. I realise that eventually my vehicle will be regulated off the roads!!! |
