Auxiliary lighting again
Chaps,
It’s been a while because all your advice worked. I fitted new units
Just to bring you up to date, I couldn’t afford the new bulbs, so have made do with simple replacement headlights.
However, winter approaches and I reckon I might need more than candles in the dark.
So following your advice (Leeds) I asked my insurance chaps (Adrian Flux) if there were any restrictions on upgrading to LED headlights.
They said
“Following your recent correspondence, if you were to amend the lights on your vehicle this would not affect the premium. Please advise once this has been completed and we will amend our records accordingly. ”
I said
“So, just to clarify :
1. as long as new LED headlights are aligned correctly, according to MOT regulations
2. And they are suitable for the vehicle
There is no other restriction on the make.”
They said
“ We can confirm that there is no restriction on the make of headlight you select. ”

So, it looks like I can go a cheapish pair of LEDs !

And just to start the winter off well, thought I’d let you know this - I won a bid on EBay for a roof light bar in excellent condition, including 2 8-led Lazer Lamps (ST8s I think) that worked ! Total cost £102.
Please tell me this is a good deal 😳😳😳.
And the main point of this entry is - do I need a relay for these?
Very much obliged

If replacing headlights with LEDs, you need to replace the entire units, you cannot just put in LED bulbs - else will fail MOT. This only applies to the headlights as you can put LEDs bulbs into other light locations and will still pass MOT

Thanks kmac.
I figured on replacing the whole unit - you’ve just confirmed it for me 😀😀.
