Have a D240 and no problems with the engine other than in 1st and 2nd gears it seems to hold onto those gears way too high in the Rev range before shifting up and it’s the same in low range - i find it’s going up to almost 3000 rpm before there is an upshift. Compared to my TDi300 90 the 2.0ltr 4 cylinder is very quiet and has plenty of ooomph……… anyway I didn’t buy it it as a sports car, I’m happy to tootle along going with the flow in the D240. Certainly sits happily at 70 on the motorway and sips diesel but if you do need to pull out to overtake it also has plenty enough torque (although of course more is always welcome).
Before I bought mine I had test driven a D5 with the 4 cylinder diesel and found it wanting and then I drove a ND D200 4 cylinder and found that to be very sluggish like the D5 so I’m glad I went for the D240. When I bought mine there were no 6 cylinder engines to test drive but I’m happy with the D240. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I agree my 240 is fine, my disco d300 isn’t anything like the defender d250 in experience when I had one.

And my d240 was just as good as the d250, certainly better than 2.2/2.4/2.5 defenders I’ve had Mike
