That voltage sounds a bit high for an older land rover, 13.5-14.0V is more typical and you might be trying your battery at that level. Do you know what voltage you were seeing before the fault?

Those voltages are fine on a TD5. Alternator does put out quite high voltages.

Thanks gents. I was expecting 14.1 there abouts. I couldn't say I've been tracking it though earlier. Any places where a short is typical? Ill get into it after a reasonable clean up. I was just surprised it came on instantly and solid. No outstanding reasons I can think of.

Check for internal shorts in alternator. Side effect could be current consumption with ignition switched off, so be carefull not to destroy battery by too deep discharge. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo
