2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SVX Soft Top Santorini Black

Estimated value? Ball park figures?

I used to be good at this (sold a tidy 50th in 2014 for £12k made good profit now £35+

) but prices are all over at the moment and a little crazy to be honest!

As we all know a Defender is only worth what someone is willing to pay, value is based on condition rather than age and as a forum as we already own enthusiastically good vehicles we’re a little picky on advertised vehicles.

A little background I agreed to do some tidying to this 1998 300 TDI for a friend having known the vehicle for near 15 years, when I give him a price for general cosmetic and service parts he offered me the vehicle for sale, as I don’t have available funds for projects I agreed to buy the parts and complete the work for a share of the remainder sale price. Work is 90% done so I’m getting ready to sell it on his behalf so am pondering on the actual value rather than the inflated “export mate” eBay or dealer prices.

The car is a nice late genuine 300 TDI CSW with 153k miles 4 owner in general great mechanical and cosmetic condition, full re spray around 6 years ago original Epsom Green and has held up pretty well with signs of the bi metal corrosion starting to appear.

Chassis is solid, wax oiled and rear cross member replaced just before re spray, bulkhead is also sound.

I’ve just done some general tiding full service including timing belt and the MOT advisory’s including the ARB ball joints failure. Cosmetically front seats refurbished etc.

So what is it worth? I’m thinking a conservative £11,500? Really don’t know with this one.

I have very recently paid £10,000 for one the same age, in worse cosmetic condition and with more miles on the clock, although fitted with a lower mileage engine. Similarly good structurally and mechanically. 1998 300tdi 90 Hard Top. Daily driver, dog bus, shooting wagon and ongoing project!

This Land Rover is even better than the description!! so we did the deal!!

Very genuine vehicle and a very genuine seller!!!

It drives very well and it has clearly been well maintained, and it has the just the right amount of Patina.

No major changes planned, just some discrete security.

we may change the tyres to more road biased tyres, mind you this may be due to the 250 mile return home on mud tyres........

It has been named Errol........
