Just a thought, I’ve no experience, but have you thought of trying those dynamic balancing beads? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I had issues with the same wheels. Rang my local LR service centre, told them the issue and asked where they get mew tyres from. They obliged.
Took it to the garage (in this case was ATS) as they had a machine capable. Balanced them without issues for £50 a set of 5. Worth every penny. Never tried beads, i'd try to find a capable garage first.  |

I’d second the garage bit. I had a garage that couldn’t get mine close to balanced and suggested it was down to the tyres being AT! It had shed loads of weights on! Took it to another who sorted it no problem using minimal weights. Smooth as you like now. That was BFG KO2 on twisted 16” 0 offset rims.

Could you let me know exactly which garage you used? When i went from 285 BFG to 285 Cooper's nobody could balance them very well... ended up going back to twisted who charged me 100 to balance them... have been holding off having them re-powder coated as didn't want to pay another chunk to have them re balanced. Biggest problem is, most garages don't have a boss big enough to fit the twisted wheels, AM Newcastle even offered to balance them for me but couldn't fit properly on the machine. |

I tried Towcester tyres and they weren’t able to help and suggested I needed smaller wheels (!) as these needed an unreasonable amount of weights.
I’m going to try ATS at the weekend or a trip to Southam tyres who specialise in 4x4. I think it just needs someone with the patience try and if necessary rotate the tyre on the rim. Failing all that I’ll try balancing beads from Dynabeads and see if that has a good result. If all else fails I’ll buy a set of Bowler wheels with a smaller offset and bring them down to 265s. |

I run ATS in Hexham which must be close to the route between your 2 locations and we have centre bosses up to the size of a dinner plate. I only run 235s on mine but we have no probs with big HiLux wheels which have a big centre hole |

Thanks for the info, i usually drive over the 686 when transiting between the two. im offshore at the moment and just purchased a L405 to use as a daily, gives me some time to do a few things on the defender, i've had a galv chassis in storage for the last 3 years now... ill get in contact in November and see about running the wheels up once i've had them blasted and coated. |

I have a similar situation with my Blindos, my local dealer's balancing machine won't take them (it mounts wheels back-to-front using a nave plate which cannot be done with a Blindo).
I usually find that to start with the tyres are well-enough balanced to be fine, but as they wear (I run KM3s) they get worse. When they become intrusive I dump twice the recommended dose of Dynabeads in and it works miracles. You may ask why I don't put the beads in on day 1. The answer is that it worries me that they will form a congealed lump with the bead lubricant, so I like to leave it a while. I've never heard of this being a problem however. |

I've never tried beads but i use my local ATS and just recently for balancing the Blindo's which they had no problems and they were spot on
1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
