Thanks for sharing, I'm about to start a 35d conversion on mine and it's really nice to see the sort of performance to expect. Looks a top notch conversion.
I'm starting with a 6hp and may go 8hp in a while. Have you any performance stats at all? |

I’m hunting for engine and gearbox set now, looking for the later M57 with 235hp with 6hp28x gearbox.
@Mar, Is this the same engine you have running in your defender now? @Jefinabox, mind sharing where you got the engine and gearbox from? |

I got a really cheap donor car from eBay, there's a Facebook group called something like "BMW conversions for land rovers" and there was a chap selling engines and boxes on there

I'm curious to know as to what system you're using to change into hi/lo and diff lock.
Only as this is my lump that arrived today to do the job for my conversion. Click image to enlarge Stuart Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

Hi Stuart, yes same kit from John, I took it a step further with the solenoids and switch gear though.

No I’ve not measured performance, I just have the dyno measurements. At the moment it feels like there’s twice the engine the car can take when driven hard, it needs brakes and suspension. But that’s forgetting it’s not been built to be high performance, I wanted something more useable and drivable, which I think I is. |

Awesome, looking forward to getting it installed Think I will stick with the solenoids John provided as I feel the mechanical-human interface fits better with the character of my build, otherwise yes, I too probably would have gone with the carling switches Now I just need to find a good looking switch cover for it to prevent accidental pressing.... I think you can set them up so pushed in is ‘normal’, IE high range no diff lock. I also saw someone did something really cool With yellow and red knobs, I think intended for draws but they looked great like an old series..

Is this air or electronic actuated? Where do you get it from? 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid) 2002 90 TD5 Hardtop (Sully) Sold 1998 300TDi D1 (Billy) Sold |

Chap from the Cummins Facebook group is how I know John.
They're both the same, the only difference is how the solenoids are actuated. Click image to enlarge Mines push, but they can be electronically controlled. Bit like a relay except instead of high current output you have high pressure air Stuart Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

Hi, excuse my ignorance but very interested in this.
I get how the switch system is working in the OP install and the advantages there but what is the alternative changing method alluded to above as if you still have a stick, what is the point? Also what is the cost of this kit or install with the switches? Where you not tempted with the electronic park break as well to free up room in the footwell? Thanks in advance. |

Cost is typically a little over 300 although I got mine on "sale" from John.
You won't need to have a stick if you do this mod. I'm also doing an engine conversion and it's useful to not have to make custom linkages and is less work for the tunnel as at least in my case, the transfer box is an inch or 2 further back and it's mated to a non lr gearbox. Click image to enlarge So instead of an electronic switch to the solenoid I just have a mechanical plunger on the valve. Happy to send John a message if you're interested in one.
