Is it a genuine tank?
Do not know much about series, let alone lightweights, but early coilers had galvanized fuel tanks. I bought an aftermarket one, and definitely is not galvanized ... but since its for a diesel I am less worried. In hindsight, I should have checked if the hot dippers could dip it for me. It not have seen any fuel yet, so risk of explosion, from fuel is not present.  creek. Iv just bought this …. 40 yrs drive old, reekie, noisy, oil leaking LRs. Iv been forced to bow to demands. Is Tesla a dirty word.

Perhaps my question should have been if series tanks were galvanized or not? If not, maybe create a thread / poll and see who has used any fuel tank liners. Por15 are highly regarded, and they make a sealer. I don't believe series tanks were galvanised as a rule.
The guy restoring my other lightweight has recommended 'Slosh' to seal it, once I managed to get all the rust off with a brillo pad.. |

Ooooooh the Brillo pad . Done that. About 3 dozen of them actually. Don’t last as long as they used to. Big thanks to my missus as it was her hands that went into the tanks. Strangely mine were too big

Series tanks were (certainly in the early days) made of tinned sheet steel and soldered together, so were effectively tin plated (similar to a bean tin), they were not galvanised. YOu couldn't hot-dip galv a soldered tank, it would fall apart.
It may be that later on tanks were welded, then they could be galvanised, this I don't know. I have a SIIA or SIII (not sure which) tank off a lightweight which I bought to use on my 86" SI at a time when SI tanks were unobtainable, and it is of soldered tinplate construction, not welded. |

I think the old 90 tank was not hot dipped, but I think constructed from galvanized sheet metal (very thin layer of zinc). The 2 pressings are then seam welded along the flanges. The seams show much more rust. There is a fuel neck, and had not checked how that is attached. But I recall that the protection plate at the bottom is mig welded at the flanges. I am almost certain that it is zinc by the crystalline finish (spangle).

^^^ The dog tends to object when I take him off roading, particularly in the lightweight
This lane is great as it's only half a mile from me and doesn't see any traffic as it's too narrow and overgrown for anything wider than a lightweight  |

Great video work Camel and well done for finishing the build but I thought it was a RED arrow. I only see black & White. A picture of it sitting under the wing of a real arrow would be lovely.
