Ok, so it provides angular alignment as both X and Y alignment is already determined by the smaller hole in the manifold.
That is a very strange way of getting alignment. Probably an elongated hole (12.9x10.3) on the #1 top hole would have done the job better from an engineering perspective, and removed one part from the spares bin. I think LR found another way to remove the part from the bin, by simply not fitting it. It wasn't there on my 2007, and it wasn't there on my spare engine (ex-2009 write-off). Both engines, as far as I know, had never had the manifold removed before. The other possibility is that the plastic spacer simply burns away over time! |
