Building a dream…or an Ophelia.
Where do you start …. Well a year ago we purchased a 110 TD5 that had been slightly abused and cared for by some very unscrupulous garages ….( looking at the bills .) The first look over her we walked away as it needed work ( although my better half had already named her ) . The asking price was 8k after a good going over the list was new brakes and discs . New xmember if not a 3/4 chassis it had staring issues and was generally rough inside having been used a tree surgeons truck . The wiring was a nightmare .. so having said we would only pay 5k we walked .. fast forward a couple of weeks and we had a tx saying they would accept that amount … ( she fair skipped out the door to pick up Ophelia )
To be fair having already test driven her she drove like a dream . Pulled well no unusual issues presented.
So we drover her home .
The plan was to build a camper . We already had a 90 with a trailer and roof tent but the hankering was for soma little more ..well different. First on the list was replacing the x member , so we found a local welder who would come and do the job .. price agreed etc . 1/4 chassis ordered and vehicle up on blocks . Old one cut off And wait and wait and wait . Always an excuse.. the frustrating thing was we had removed the chassis part dropped the tank etc so it wasn’t even drivable to a garage.. and we waited. After threats of violence etc he turned up .. and as a bonus he taught me to weld ….
Going over the paper work that came with her in the last two years the owner had spent nearly 6k on services 4 fuel pumps and various other spurious bits that apparently needed doing .. to be fair he had no idea about land rovers and some West Country garages clearly saw that .
So if anyone is interested more to follow ( only because we sort of finished her today.)

Many thanks for all the interest ..so first job brakes and discs clean out the inside de Ming and remove over a hundred led fairy lights . Don’t ask ..during this much research was undertaken about Land Rover camper builds .. ear;y on we knew we wanted a raised roof .. options included alucab /dormobile and a couple of the makes .. many glasses of wine beer and ep90 were consumed during the discussion making phase.
Finally we decided contact made choices decided and deposit paid ….time off work booked and the trip began

So having duly delivered her for her top job …we planned to build the lower half ourselves as we didn’t want the same as others .
Dormobile needed her for four days to do the job .. four days later they needed her a bit longer …
Que five weeks later talk about frustration…..

Finally the call came to come and collect her .. time off work booked and the trip from Cornwall to Hampshire began with much excitement.

Our first view .. after spending the thick end of 7k we got to see the roof ..
week we were not impressed . We had deliberately left the interior black so it wouldn’t get messed up .
The first thing we spotted was a gaping hole on the canopy at the front then one at the back ..the colour coded roof was scratched and the custom built lockers had been butcher to get them in..

So what todo return to Cornwall and travel back again talk about p off ..they offered to buy us lunch and would put things right .. questions were ask about quality control and who had checked it ……
Anyway after a long lunch we returned
