Not sure it’s any surprise (and remember that the first Defender owed an awful lot to the classic Range Rover).

I’ve been expecting something like this, although I always imagined that it would be a Range Rover based on the 90 platform (ie a hark back to the two door Range Rover) and not a Defender based on the Range Rover platform.

Wont be long before JLR start employing bouncers on the door to keep us out with the words ' we don't want your sort here, your not invited'.

Jeez, you should see the looks i get at the local service centre when i am dropping the wife off to collect her Velar........

Oh well, it will keep the credit companies happy.

JLR needs to concentrate on getting the build of the current cars 100% faultless before they start taking Defender any further upmarket. It’s already verging on too expensive for the dire QC - maybe they need to bring the production line back to Solihull where the management can keep an eye directly on build quality because I think they’ve all gone on holiday at Nitra.
It’s ludicrous that I now have the car in the workshop to cure a drivers door rattle that has been “fixed” to use the workshops technical term, 3 times previously but keeps returning Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The current new Defender is based on a modified Range Rover D7u platform.

My experience is that the vehicles coming out of Tesla's China factory are a leap forward on previous offerings from the US. Whether that's the China effect or just general company wide learnings I'm less sure on.

MLA platform was going to be common right across all models and then revised under the Reimagine plan

Might as well say Land Rover will replace the Range Rover with a new Jaguar XJ based model...

Surely all this talk of platforms is missing the point? LR and virtually every other manufacturer have always shared parts across their ranges. Shouldn't any angst really be about the fact that LR are developing a Defender to sit squarely in what has always been exclusively Range Rover territory in terms of spec. and pricing? Darren

Yes it does miss your point but does address the nonsense of saying a new Defender will be Range Rover based.

Defender is indeed moving into Range Rover territory in terms of spec and pricing but Range Rover is vacating that space and moving upwards itself; so there's logic there but also angst at what Defender has and will increasingly become and the pricing points this then generates.

That EMA BEV platform could be interesting with the compact ICE. Wonder if it’s a range extender setup? We had a BMW i3 REX when they came out it was a brilliant setup. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE
