Hello folks!
I'm wondering.... As I've just purchased and fitted the removable steering wheel & swivel lock setup as supplied by Optimill. How good are they??? The quality and design seem seriously good! Guess what I'm asking is has anyone (unfortunately) still had their Defender nicked with one of these fitted? Don't want to come across as Mr. Negative, I think it's a fair question to ask. Only had the new to me truck for a few days, I'll be fitting other bits as extra security measures. More the better right!?! Comments welcomed - Great forum! Cheers 👍🏻 |

Like most things its a deterrent and a means of slowing a tea leaf down.......ultimately if a determined thief wanted YOUR truck then they would either winch it on a flat bed or simply accost you for the keys
Personally they are very good and hopefully enough of a visual deterrent to pit the large majority off |

Had mine on a couple of years and really chuffed with it - quicker than a pedal lock, more visible, haven’t heard a horror story of one being pinched with one on, great mod IMO

Won't stop anyone with a hiab, or dragging it onto a truck. Of they really want, they will have it
Where it does help, is any would be thief walking past, see they have no means of steering the car, and hopefully moving on |

I too have the 15" Moto-Lita QR with the swivel lock - I think the Momo wheels look a bit too sporty. Excellent quality and as you say, just one of a few layers of security. It can only help to dissuade the casual villain and encourage them to look elsewhere. Defender 50th GB165

Just a thing to note, have you advised your insurance company of the steering wheel modification ?
Noting that some mainstream insurers will actually increase your premium or insist you revert to a non removable steering wheel setup or your insurance will be ceased with them. Seems mad I know, but has happened to other members and you don’t want to find out your insurance is invalid if you have not advised them and you have an accident or theft. See his thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic76831.html Ps how you go about advising them can dictate the outcome. Ie I have a Moto-Lita steering wheel with an Optimill boss may get an ok with no increase in premium, but saying I have a Moto-Lita steering wheel with a removable boss may get a an increase in premium or be advised it needs reverting to original or you are not insured ! |
