In my experience Old Man Emu +2" shocks are absolutely superb on and off road, I stand by this as I have them fitted to my Defender and have done for many years.
As far as what else to change at the same time... Well I would definitely check your anti roll bar ball joints and bushes whilst you are there. I have no idea what you have fitted at the moment but if they are anywhere near 10 years old I would be looking to replace them as a matter of course. Plus it makes such a huge difference to the ride... |

lots of options on this and depends on budget and need.
i run 3 defenders. they all run OME shocks all round. I have been down the Terra Firma, Koni, and King routes in the past. OME last well, have lots of duty options to suit the need. my 110 ones have been on over 8 years, used for towing, day to day and some off road tuition. std length Heavy Duty pin/pin all round. rear recently changed to pin/pin. rears 1 year old. front 8 years old. some overlanding. 130 runs Heavy Duty OME all round, again pin/pin all round, used a off road camper, some towing and light off roading. 1year old 90, again pin/pin all round, 2 years old. All 3 running standard LR suspension, 110 and 130 have rear helper bags. i run Gywn Lewis rear top shock mounts to convert to pin/pin. i find them good on roads, subtle enough with how my vehicles are loaded off road and robust with great damping and performance for the £££. Gwyn Lewis would be worth a call to discuss suspension options. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I have spoken with Gywn for shocks and as I don't tow apart from taking the caravan for its yearly service as we have it on a seasonal pitch or carry a lot of weight wolf wheel on the spare wheel carrier that's all really he recommended old man emu adventure Front shocks on the front and rear for comfort as we have the side facing seats which are used for the boy's but they feel every pot hole so knowing that it will never be Range Rover comfort if it helps them on long trips out the better for my ears from complaints.
They are being fitted as we speak so I will know next week on my 2005 TD5 90 so the same as yours but not lifted |

On a related question, what's the advantage of converting the rears to pin / pin over standard? |

I will take a call with Gwen and hopefully find a good solution, with him. |

The ring mount at the top of the rear shocks are a known weak point. Converting to pin/pin reduces the risk of breaking a shock absorber. Converting to Gwyns rear mount will also allow you to upgrade to a +5" shock should you ever want to. This is also a great modification and I miss having it installed on my 110. |

Obviously it is a typo, however... Calling a Welshman Gwen, when his name is Gwyn, may not impress him much... |

An eye at the top can limit axle arc movement on articulations creating stresses that result in premature failure. Same as if the eye is done uo too tight or the washer is incorrectly fitted. A pin at the top allows greater flexibility without the stress Cheers

My friend converted to pin/pin on the rear so he only had to carry one spare to cover all 4 corners when travelling. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
