I am pretty sure that someone has been there with an angle grinder and a welding torch.
Here are some shots from my 1988 90. Front end of the chassis is identical to that of a 110. Not that it matters anymore, but the 200tdi radiator is a bit taller than that of the 19J (I think also deeper), so to fit a 200tdi rad on a pre 200tdi chassis, the radiator mounts have to be lowered. Thanks, that is what I assume.
You mean if I weld the original Tdi mounts then it won't fit because the frame is higher than the old radiator? Another thing, it looks as if the 200 Tdi radiator is also slightly slanted inwards, or is that just an optical illusion? There was no AC but a large intercooler in front of the old radiator. |

If it's an optical illusion, I'm seeing it too, and wondered the same thing. I'm currently working on a '98 300Tdi and we've had to replace the radiator/intercooler frame. In that instance, I think those brackets are level. If you have a full width intercooler, forward of the radiator position, why not just continue to use that, and modify the 200Tdi radiator frame to fit your existing mounts and to clear the steering box? If you weld 200tdi rad mounts, a 200tdi radiator will fit perfectly as the cross member remained the same. If you weld the 19J radiator mounts and fit the 200tdi radiator, the radiator will fit too high and will have an issue to close the bonnet. I am not sure about tilt, but to my eye I always see them parallel to the grille. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Ensure that the rad is positioned correctly as if not and you fit the cowl, it could foul with the engine or fan or both. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

That's one of the options I had, however, it is pretty beaten too and the pipe connections are not optimal. Plus I thought the smaller ones increase the responsiveness a little bit. |

Are you sure wrt the different radiator mounts? I thought the chassis (and thus also the mounts) were the same at least between 1987 and 1998? |

Hmmm, maybe you are right, but for sure the engine mounts and gearbox crossmember changed for the 300tdi.
As we do know that the 19J is not the best engine ever made by LandRover, I was making my research to upgrade to 200 engine, and all information I could find is that the radiator mounts need to be lowered. Now I do not know the exact reason, that is, if the radiator from the 200 is actually taller, or because of the difference in radiator top mounts. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
